Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Spring is certainly on its way on Long Island. The trees are starting to bud, we see the geese flying North. ANd poor Salty is in the midst of mating season. Cranky, screechy, and most telling we caught him pleasuring himself on one of his toys. Our little boy no longer, our little man, now.

Ahhh yes, boys and their toys hahaha!

The Rb is 36 this year and still raunchy as ever! Gotta love our little roosters!

Geez Al, you're a couple of months ahead of us here in New Hampshire...cant wait!

Oh al :(. Parker’s ramping up, starting to get very obstinate, and obsessing more than ever about trying to be with and get to my partner; hormones just around the corner for sure. Any day, he’ll start screaming and growling nonstop from his cage - that’s when I know he is in full swing.

Any day now...*shudder*

Neptune is at it too... Crows from random high spots which he then defends to the death, when no hens come running, he picks a new spot...ugh
Before him I never had hormonal parrot problems...

Hey he can pleasure himself all he wants, but he just sounds so forlorn when he starts almost crying, or maybe it's whining? Long drawn out EEEEEeeeeeaaaaaaaaaa, as only Amazons can. And nippy today, which is not like him. We are gonna cut back on fruits for lunch for sure. I feel so bad for him, little green bird with blue.......feathers

Our Julio, Greets the Start of Hormonal Season at very near it's calendar start, commonly just after Christmas (after all, one has to be 'Good' for the 'Big Guy'). :D

Two+ weeks of living with 500 grams of rolling, swings of chemical rushes = Lover to Killer to Lover to Killer, etc, etc, etc...

May Salty's swings continue to be mild...

Is Salty going through puberty or just the normal hormonal season? If it's puberty it's going to last for a time (as I am sure you know).

Bingo's seasonal hormones' were strong this year but the previous 2 years it was almost nonexistent.

The video I found on YNA was interesting that it explained why the timing of the breeding season was so critical. If the chicks don't or aren't ready to leave the nest in time the seasonal rains fill the nest (inside a hollowed out tree) with water and drown the poor chicks.

We are fairly sure he has gone thru puberty already ( he's 5 now), and we went thru a longish period of attitudinal change. Come to think of it, last 2 years WERE rather mild. We just feel bad for the lil guy. He doesn't know what to do with himself, it seems like. Yesterday (Sunday) he did not want a single scratch; usually he's a hound for it. We have a hand signal to inquire if he wants one. He either tried to nip me, or just stared at my hand, like I might as well be waving a sock at him.

Aaaaaaand we’re here! I knew it. Except it’s not screaming. We have a first: Parker climbed down his cage to the floor SPECIFICALLY to attack me.

Despite partners interventions Parker Actually charged at me and bit my feet multiple times - thank god I was fully clothed and shoed, so I wasn’t hurt and stared him down. he has NEVER hunted my feet down like that before.

Kicker and perspective? I had cheese at the moment, his kryptonite. I could get him to do anything for cheese, including halting aggression.

Not this time. Poor guy. This spring is going to be tough all around.

Lord! Salty started this! :)
Neptune made love to my hand first time ever, and hopefully last! Cought him pleasuring himself.....sigh....he and Ta-dah have broken up, she wants none of what he is offering......
At least Neptune is trying to woo me with sweet words, like hlo
Hello baby, hi pretty girl... Lol

Hey don't blame Salty, he hardly knew what he was doing. It WAS kinda funny, tho. Vacant stare in his usually bright focused eyes, butt raised, clucking slightly, and rubbing his favorite toy cup. The only thing missing was his tounge lolling out to one side. We made numberous ribald jokes at his expense, like "Salty, where's your taste, boy? You picked the ugliest cup in the cage !!".

Prepare for a rough next few years! So glad Kiwi is over the youthful boy parrot stuff and just gets a bit testy. Come to think of it, I haven’t noticed any spring changes this year and he normally gets hormonal in January or February. Wonder if the baby has anything to do with it? He feels fulfilled in that there is a tiny helpless new flock memeber:33: That or he knows his sleep deprived humans are likely to eat him if he acts up:eek::D
