Kazi - 13 yr old yellow nape amazon rescue
Anyone else's male 'zon behaving badly lately? Kazi's all irritable and hates everyone in the house. I've been bitten a fair bit and lunged at once and even had to move him with a stick a couple of times. I've talked with other 'zon owners who are going through the same at the moment.

I'll be glad when it's over, but not as glad as my husband and cats will be, I bet! I've had to do a lot of rescuing over the past several days. And not of the bird!

Pete is actually coming out of his hormonal season now. He hasn't done a mating dance for about a week now. And he is no longer making passes at Merlin. During the last 4 months while he was hormonal I discovered he is a very well behaved boy when it comes to these things. I really got lucky I think. When I got him though, his previous owner told me he had given his macaw to a breeder when she got hormonal and he couldn't deal with her. So the fact that he kept Pete for almost 3 decades gave me the idea that he was not bad at all during that time. That conversation got started because he told me there was no rehoming fee, but some people told him he should ask one so no one takes Pete to feed to a snake or something. I just said OMG, no, I'm not going to do that. I also said I'm not a breeder or a bird flipper, just a person who loves companion parrots. Then he said he really didn't mind if I used him for breeding and told me about the macaw.

My husband has taken to referring to Kazi as "your demonbird". This morning he said that he'd never thought he'd ever be wishing for 'the good old days' when Kazi used to just snatch treats out of his hand angrily instead of actively trying to kill him.

So far so good here. He did threaten a little at my hubby the other day. We've been making sure that he gets alone play time w/hubby everyday again. It seemed to help. Merlin loves him but views him as competition for my attention. Is there an activity that he enjoys that he could share w/your hubby?

The only activity he'd enjoy with my husband would involve bodily injury to my husband, I think ;) I'm hoping when he calms down he and my husband can work on a bit of a bond. My husband is only home when Kazi is awake for a few hours a week, though, so it's hard. Kazi hasn't really accepted that he's flock too, so he gets treated as an intruder/competitor.

I don't even interact with my zons at all at this time, they stay in their aviary & i just talk to them everyday. They are so unpredictable. Once it's over they are more social.

My Beemer is still in the mood for love and will get busy on anything. she hates my hubby unless he has food that she wants.. other than that she has nothing to do wiyh him.. so when will she stop being in the mood

Paco has been perfect so far. He does get a bit excited when I vacumn, flairs his tail and pins his eyes.He seems to love it.He has been following me around the house.Literally flys from room to room to be in the same room with me...I do believe he is starting to like me.As long as im not the subject of his springtime love fest.

My Blue Fronted Zon has been hormonal since I got him at the end of January. He has been calming down a bit lately. But I just know not to try to handle him or touch anything in his cage when he's in or on it. If I can get him away from his cage in another room, he's just fine. I'm hoping the hormonal spring thing will be over soon, although the previous owner did tell me that he was terribly hormonal and agressive at her place (hence her wanting to rehome him). I just took it as something I'll have to work around. He's such a pleasure to watch play and talk it makes up for the nastiness most times. lol

My Toby is Molting but I dont think it is hormonal as of yet, He is almost a year old and I am not sure how old they are when he starts getting to that hormonal stage, But he is territorial when it comes to his cage, but he is starting to come around.. Its kind of funny where he has bit me in the past I will say Ouch!! the tell him he is being a bad bird, Now he keeps saying Ouch Bad Bird !!! over and over.

We got his new cage today and we will be assembling it tonight or tomorrow and I cant wait for him to get use to his new cage, I hope he enjoys it!!!
