Sprite the cinnamon green cheek conure.
Sprite's beak look very dry and is peeling. The peeling is the same thing that my nails do, and they always do it in the summer! And I know that parrot's beaks are made of the same things as our nails, so I think the peeling could be because of the weather. Anyone have any tips for getting it to stop peeling?

Sprite's beak looks a bit like this http://i489.photobucket.com/albums/rr255/vdtijer/pics089.jpg, but there is actually a piece where it is peeling off. I'll see if I can get a picture...

What is his diet? My nanday's beak does that. I just got her and she ate only a seed mix.

My GCC libby's beak was also like that when I got her (again, seed diet) but it is growing out now.

Does he chew on his calcium thing? I think it's either caused by insufficient nutrition / calcium. Although I suppose it might simply be too dry. Does he shower with you?

If u use veggie oil on her beak. The yellowkind u cook this. It helps it from not staying dry.

haha yeah, I oil my birds' beaks, too. I moisturize with straight up oil (grape seed, almond, etc etc) and they seem to like it so I rub some on their beak. They get moisturized, too, in the morning.

I never thought of this. Pepper's not having any beak issues but he might enjoy it now and then. Thanks!
