Squatting while resting, does your bird do this?

Hello!

Sometimes when Jenga is perched she gets really low and kind of squats down on the perch (kind of like a duck resting on an egg) and has leaning on it - rather than resting with her foot up like most birds.

Does your bird do this? Is this probably just how she rests or is it unusual?

Kiwi does that sometimes, hunkers down so low and fluffs his belly feathers so you can't see his feet. And when he's on his play tree, he will sit on the spare food dish and plop his hind end right in there as low as it can go to take a nap. Remember, they can't lay down, so the "positions" they sleep in/feel comfortable in are different for each bird and look funny/uncomfortable to us. I don't think it's anything to worry about, probably most comparable to how some people sleep on their back or side or belly and sometimes one position feels better than the other.

I call it the difference between "sitting" and "standing" on a perch lol.
I've always thought it would be cute to train a bird to 'sit' and 'stand'... There is just such a slight difference. I would think it would be hard to train though, to get them to know what you're talking about.

Anyway, it's completely normal. They don't always put one foot up when resting.

Thanks so much guys! She is acting normal besides that so I figured it was, but now I have peace of mind too!

You might want to consider giving her some platform perches to rest on if she doesn't have them already. It would give her a more stable position to "squat" down on and rest if she so chooses.

I reckon it is quite normal for a bird to stand or sit on the perch
Guess its like when we sitting we change positions
Mishka does it quite often

Hi folks, thanks for your responses! She's still doing it but does it on my hand now too which she's never done before. I hope it means that she is becoming more comfortable.

Kiko squats down low when he's resting, and leans forward so it looks like he's basically lying down on the perch, and sticks his rump in the air so his tail feathers go through the cage bars(to give him balance i suppose). As long as she is acting normal otherwise, this is okay. I know it's normal for Kiko, and he usually only does it at night.
