Hey guys
In the picture below is my new Pineapple GCC, Fawkes. He is on a homemade T stand which I had just put together prior to the picture. Everytime I put him on the perch he flies to me, nothing can make him stay on it. Do you have any tips for this? I want him to be able to sit on it and feel at home there. Any advice y'all can give would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hi!
I bought a big wood perch for my GCC that I attached to the outside of the cage. I was hoping she'd enjoy sitting there while out of the cage. But I had the same problem, she refused to stay on it.
But eventually I got around it and now she sits there after her baths and preens her feathers.
I made an attachment so that I could put a cup of seed on the perch, which helped, she sits on the perch while eating.
I also found that since the wood has been sanded smooth her feet slid on it and she often lost her balance. You could have the same problem with the pipes. So what I did was cut a long piece of a sheet and then wind it up a bit and then rap it around the part she would be standing on. Plus then she was interested in nibbling the sheet. I also hung some toys on it.
Also once I got her to stay on there and not fly right back I started training her on it. So now she associates sitting there with getting treats.

PVC is slippery for their feet. You could try wrapping some vet wrap around it to give her some grip, maybe some toys, a food dish with something yummy in it.

I agree with making the grip surface more comfortable, but I think the biggest reason might just be that "sitting" on a t-stand gets pretty boring at times when he is more energetic. Read his body language... Is he in hyper mode wanting to play and move around? Try putting him on the stand during times when he's more relaxed and wanting to sit stil.

Also like the others mentioned, adding toys and food cups will add to 'things to do' while on it. You can even add an additional "T" or whatever shape on the existing stand (attached so it is higher), to add another dimension to climb on. Put a eye hook on it and dangle a favorite type of toy!

An ordinary T stand doesn't have anything that interests them.

A stand that has toys, and things to run around on, and play with gives you a much better chance of having them stay put.

Vet wrap the PVC perches to give better grip.

We tried a T-stand for our GCC Skittles. He could not have been less interested. However - what we DID find, that he loves, is a hunk of arbutus branch (about 6 feet tall, stuck in a plastic bucket full of rocks for stability), with lots of little branches. We hung a bunch of small toys on it, and he happily flies to it & plays on it for hours, scampering up & down all the little branches, killing the toys, and chattering happily. I suspect that the varying diameters and angles of the branches offer him a little bit of a physical challenge.

Make it fun. Frootie loves tree branches with lots of little branches coming off. we use baby rings to attach her cargo net, or hessian bag net on, string some beads, peg crinkly wrappers on the smaller branches...we wrap up nuts in paper to make bon bons and peg those on - she loves anything noisey or shiny.

You might have to sit on the stand with him. Joking! I've been thinking about making a pvc stand but I've noticed Buddy likes branches or real wood perches. I think it's texture with him.

small bamboo works good for my 2 Conures. I have a play stand that I keep next to their cage. I found some nice fresh bamboo which was different diameters and made a hanging play area over the cage.

for my PVC play stand, I bought two condiment bowls, drilled holes in the end caps for bolts and glued a nut with Loc Tight onto the bottom of the bowls. Now he's got access to food and water when he's playing. Machine scres 1/4in from Crown Bolt. I cant read the rest but here's a number on the bag 27991. I also wrapped the perch area with vet wrap..works great.
