So chuy will step up and you can take him from his cage. But as soon as he gets a chance he flys right back in or on top of his cage.............we can't figure out what to do.

Try moving him to a separate room and closing the door.

In addition to Sunnyclover, andahmadses take him to anouther room with something else to do, have treats and water available. Read a book or watch game of Thrones, whatever, whiles he's with you for a while.....give treats and water as he likes....

The point is to imprint in his head that the cage is not the center of the universe....his owner is, you are. Spend at least an hour each time....as opposed to ten minutes, he needs to live it to learn it.

I would only do this if he isn't scared. "flooding" their fear to show it's okay is definitely not the way to do things and can lead to them having some real problems down the line

I was off a few days, sure if the bird is in a panic like LordTriggs cited could happen then yes put him back, but if he's just kind of hopping around your shoulder and exploring...

Takes a minute to adjust to a new environment, but if he calms down just enjoy...don't get antsy because he's antsy...just project calmness...he is looking to you on how he should feel.

haha good to hear! Yeah if their "cautious" and just sort of checking things out making sure they're not gonna get eaten then leave them out and keep them distracted
