Stolen Grey San Antonio TX

13 yr old Greta was stolen in a Robbery. She does talk and crime strippers is offering 5k for info that leads to an arrest.

WHY AM I THINKING I MET THIS BIRD AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME AT MY LAST VET VISIT?! There was a CAG who slightly plucked in for grooming, and I think the name was Greta.

Have we met?!

Oh good grief, Mark! Thieves are getting bolder by the minute. My kids live in the Ft. Worth metroplex, in the last year they have had THREE new generators stolen out of their truck, all three times the truck was parked in their driveway in the middle of the day while they were inside the house. Their mobile grooming van has been broken into twice, both times a lot of expensive equipment was taken and the door of the van had to be repaired. Of course, that's nothing at all like having a family member like Greta stolen.

No, I think I met this bird and the owner when I was in the waiting room at the Vets around Christmas, before any of this happened. We were both in for grooming. The name sounds familiar. It was a female gray and the name started with a G...

So I'm thinking I may have met the person this happened to.

We've had our house broken into twice last year. We think it was kids, because the only things that got stolen were things like my daughter's video game system, laptops, etc. They focused on my daughter's stuff.

They didn't bother the birds, thank god!

My car got broken into in our driveway over Christmas...

I hate thieves, but I most especially hate BIRD THIEVES!!!

That is terrifying! There has been a lot of break ins in my neighborhood in Arlington lately, too, and always in the middle of the day! I guess they know all the suburbanites are at work. Hopefully a thief would look at my guy and realize he'd be lucky to get a hundred bucks for a Quaker on CL and pass him by--I would MUCH rather lose a TV than a beloved pet!!! I cannot BELIEVE someone stole a bird. How messed up must they be? Ugh. Praying for Greta's safe return, the poor darling, and for the family's sanity during this stressful time.

Mark--I'd make sure my doors were locked at all times. I would assume if you actually steal a parrot then you know ahead of time that's what you're going for. I have a hard time seeing people breaking into a house looking for DVD players and gaming systems and being like "Oh, hey, look, a bird in a ginormous cage. Let's grab it, stick it in a cardboard box, and take it with us." Sounds premeditated to me!

We think we know who did it, in our case. We can't prove it. But we strongly suspect...

Even though she's sweet, the size of Maggie's beak tends to discourage anyone from grabbing her. If you didn't belong there, I'm pretty sure you'd have a hard time of it. Remember, mine are loose in the house.

Someone tried to steal my Red Front once. She was in a tree at the park. She bit the crap out of his neck, and flew back to me. (He had the nerve to act surprised!)

I'm pretty sure they'd defend themselves, and we'd have DNA left behind at the crime scene... I don't ever want to find out though!

That's why I have an monitored burglar alarm, security cameras, neighbors that I have encouraged (bribed with baked goods) to be especially nosey when I'm off running errands, and why I invited the local police (small town) into my home to meet my birds and dogs so they know to pay close attention to my house. I also have my larger birds microchipped.

I keep window blinds shut that face the front of my home so I don't blatantly "advertise" that I have birds. I'm also pretty careful about who I let in my home. If I have service people coming, I usually put the birds in the living room out in the back porch aviary so they don't see them and close doors to room other birds are in.

I can't imagine I could ever recover from the theft of one of my feathered family members, so I try to do ALL I can to avoid it happening. Working from home helps, too. I'm almost always here. Protect them like they were your own kids!
