Stupid Step Up question....

I was recently at an exotic store that did Step Up in a different way with their birds.

Instead of going forward their lower belly/legs to have the birds step up, they had their birds trained to do it from behind. They'd lift their hand up behind the birds, by the feet, and ask for the command.

I've never seen someone do this before. Is there a difference in behavior or something? What would be the point in training it that way? I would think it would make the bird nervous to have you come up and under him...

I saw your post a few days ago and thought "nope, I have nothing of value here", but today, when I wanted Tino to step up and he was a little nippy, I moved my hand to the back of him and he stepped up backwards. I have without knowing it asked Tino to step up backwards, if he was in the mood for love biting.

I then dawned on me, that would be a good reason, to awoid customers getting bit or scared of being bit and moving their hand in the last minute.

Upon thought, I will recommend this to the Missus.
I don't think this has been tried.

Its been around for sometime. Yes, it helps avoid a bites, but the goal was (is) based on the likelihood of a greater likelihood of a Step-Up. However, It can also increase the likelihood of a arm bite. It also had problems when getting a Parrot out of a Cage!
