13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
I watch Amigo meandering his way through a tree and there is nothing poetic about it! Nothing like a finch or sparrow, flitting around. This bird will grab the branch he is sitting on, with his beak, do a roll over, (somersault), feet dangling, going this way and that, (looking for a perch), find one then move on to the next. Take a few steps sideways, jump to the next branch, almost fall, catch himself, with his beak...pull his legs up to grab the branch, hang upside down to catch the next one below, so on and so forth. I believe the ape evolved from the bird.

I'm thinking that maybe I should have posted this in the free flight section, oops!

ROFLMAO !!!!

OMG , that is so funny Mare :):):)
Your description is hysterical and it really paints the picture of Amigo Man aping through the trees , lololol.

Too funny :):):)

I can just hear the sound Ape Man from the Kinks , lololol.
OMG , my sides hurt from laughing so much , lol.

He is hilarious to watch, for sure luvmytooo! I watch him fly and am in AWE!! His flying maneuvers are spectacular! He will do beyond a 180 degree roll while flying in a straight line! I've seen him fly straight UP and then DOWN, flare right before the ground and swoop into a tree. When walking around in a tree, he's a little disadvantaged, but that's ok :)

This evening, he was crawling down the side of an oak tree trunk. I was very curious as to why, so I watched, patiently. Sure enough, there was a kitten hiding behind the tree and Amigo will NOT put up with trespassers!

Hahaha thats so cute, I'd love to see that! :D

Oh NOOO !! He didnt hurt the little kitty , right ?
Oh , poor thing , are you going to feed it or keep it ?

The kitten is ours, sweet little thing, Amigo was just patrolling his turf. I've never seen Amigo attack an animal. Sassy will get agitated with dogs on the floor when they are in her space. Tim thinks she's all bluff, I have to agree, if the dog doesn't see her coming, the wind goes right out of her sails!

You need to get video of this and post...that is so funny.

Oh im glad its not a stray :)
How funny to see Amigo doing his ninja approach on the kitten , ROFLMAO :):):)

LOL, Sugar is a major bluffer too! Soo funny!

I thought Cameo was just a klutz but after your discription there I think cockatoos are just a clumsy breed. Cameo will miss a perch with he beak and end up doing a 360 on the perch she is hanging on to. At times it has stopped my heart thinkiing she will fall on her face but then Cameo squawks up a storm like she is mad and say Hi I`m Cameo. LOL

Funny you should mention this, a few days ago I was watching a small flock of wild Lorikeets in the tree tops and noticed how horrible they were at maneuvering in the tree as well.

I saw one of them fly up to perch near the top of the tree, but the branch he chose was too young and flimsy.
As soon as he landed, the momentum of his landing bent the branch down down down but he held on to it till he was standing upside down! He started flapping his wings like crazy, still upside down and gripping. The branch hit the bottom of its fall and started to flex back up up up! And he stayed on it the whole time. :D

He must've moved about 5 feet vertically while perched on that branch - In fact, he looked exactly like a human bungee jumper!

Yep! I've seen Amigo do the same thing! You would think they would let go and fly off, but Nooo! That would be giving up. Parrots are super stubborn!
