Meet my sweetheart lovebird Minha, I rescued her from a bird shop five months ago. She was bloodstained by relentless pecking of other birds and had wounds on her head and wings.
Two weeks ago, I noticed her vent is a little swollen, I researched online, and it said she is harmonal so I must remove anything that resembles nesting material. I removed all the newspaper that I give her to shred, and I did not notice the swelling after that.
But today, I again noticed that her vent looked unusual. I inspected her for eggbinding but there is no egg incoming, there is no bulge. She is perfectly playful, plays all the time and is eating well. One thing is that she spends most of her time at the bottom of the cage, and she does this since the time I got her for the first time. She even sleeps at the bottom of cage sometimes, perfectly healthy, no ill-signs.
She has a "friend" that I got for her a month back, but they have not paired with each other. She won't even let him come close to her. They have never mated, I never saw them mate, as their cage is in my room all the time. I would like to add that I gave her tree branches to chew on recently, could it have made her harmonal? Also, there is no netbox attached to her cage.
I do not understand why she has a swollen vent now. Could it mean an infertile egg is on the way? I am from a small city. This is why I have come to you for advice.
