hi everyone!

recently i saw this cockatoo that really made me want to bring him/her home. she's plucked down the back but her chest seems okay still. she was chained on a stand with no food and very dirty water in front of a bird shop that was closed.
next to her was a dispenser that would cough out sunflower seeds if u put some coins in….i would say she's been there for quite awhile given the amount of gunk on the floor. also, she was begging for food so she's probably used to getting fed by strangers. ironically the shop she was in front of seems to specialise in parrot training

anyway i don't even know if she's for sale…or maybe she could be one of the cases that the bird trainer took in. but i honestly can't believe any decent person much less someone good with parrots would just leave her outside there like that.

this thing has been bugging me for the past few weeks and i can't seem to forget about it i'm hesitating a bit cause too's have a reputation for being difficult and i have an important exam at the end of this year meaning i probably can't invest too much time on other stuff….

just wanted some opinions on whether i should go ask if they would sell her to me??and whether i have a shot at rehabilitating her?

While you are right that toos are advanced birds and not for beginners I think I'd have to talk to the shop to try to figure out some way to help this bird.

That sounds like a pretty terrible situation for a bird to be in, and may be worth a phone call to whatever animal welfare organization you have locally. What type of cockatoo is it?

toos are very difficult birds to live with and especially ones with health problems/plucking/ possibly unsocialized not that im suggesting anything illegal but outside of a shop in poor condition chained up idve been mad and that bird wouldnt be on that stand anymore! obviously something needs to be done for this bird is there a parrot rescue or animal control you can call???? if not talk to the shop owner about maybe releasing the bird to you and you can see if an avian vet will take him in or help you figure out the extent of the health problems he probably has and try to care for him wich IS difficult but not impossible.

I'm pretty sure an animal left alone and tethered with no access to food is a clear and unarguable strike as far as the legal definition of animal cruelty is concerned, and for that reason there should be grounds for a local animal welfare agent to pay them a visit. The leg chain in itself and the filthy conditions would probably warrant them taking an interest as well, and the seed dispenser encouraging members of public to take pity and pay to provide food is something I imagine the local paper would get some mileage out of.

Seeing a bird in a distressed condition is heart-wrenching to say the least. But that bird sounds like he needs a tremendous amount of time, saint-like patience, a slew of vet bills...to name a few. I would take as many pics as you can (and video) discreetly and call your local SPCA or similar organization. If nothing else, the investigation will force the owners to rethink how they're treating him. Everything you described sounds horrific!

i'm from singapore. and honestly reporting to authorities aint going to make much of a difference. i dont even know if shes for sale but if i'm going to buy her i need to match the market price of around $1000+.

i think she is a lesser sulfur 'too but she's real small. like around goffin sized?...i'll try to get pics soon

my concern is that for one on one time, i'll only have about half an hr a day to spend with her. but of course all my fids get a few hours of out of cage time~ but that'll be with other parrots and not alone time with her. would that be enough??

If you want to bond with her at the beginning you need to spend a bit more time then just 30min a day. And yes I get what your saying reporting to authorities being a waste of time which is true in that region. If you feel the need to save her from that situation please do cause I sure would.

the time issue is still bugging me a little. coz i honestly would not have too much time to spare i would really love to get her but it'll probably be a few more weeks before i make da felluh an offer…

i need to research more and maybe find some chances to interact with some 'toos first. i don't want to rush into this and end up regretting my decision.

i went down to the place again and took some pics this time!!

i gave her a nutriberry and she finally kept still for me to take a pic of her back. the good thing is that she isn't plucked as badly as i thought

however, i heard from some people around there that this particular shop has gotten in a bit of trouble with the authorities already…and that they had a couple of parrots mauled to death by their dogs

Even if you only have half an hour.
Her living conditions are still much better with you.
Clean water,good feed,toys to me it still sounds better than now.

I agree with Hacatta. Even the small amounts of time tou spend with this bird, along with a loving home will make all the difference. Please see if you can get her. I can see, just by looking at your photos, that this is no life for her.

Yann, those pictures break my heart. I understand the laws and legislation make it difficult to help this bird but something needs to be done and soon. Even if you can't take the bird yourself, I hope you can find a way to help her before she is mauled by dogs like the others. Have you contacted the authorities and reported this? I would be surprised if no one has called about this bird already, maybe if they get enough complaints something can be done. Have you talked to the owners at all?

Looking at that wire ring there...if it were me...I would just bring a wire cutter and take her...I know that is probably wrong...but. Its what I would do if I saw a bird in those conditions...I wouldn't be able to stop myself...Its just a thin wire they have holding her.And those conditions she is in just break my heart to see. Just a beautiful bird left like that....I just can't stand to look at it.There has to be something that can be done for that poor baby.

I'm with water lily. I would rescue her. A half hour a day of love is better then a life time on that bar without food or water.

it is a terrible situation. but make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. if there's an animal rescue organisation they may be better placed to take care of that bird. That bird needs some TLC and i agree that 30mins is better than nothing, but if there was organisation which could offer a bit more time/ be able to help with vet care (because i'm sure there'll be a few issues) they may be a better starting point than you getting overwhelmed with everything on your own

Ok after seeing this picture....TAKE HER!!!! 30min is better then her situation now, that's horrible how someone would chain a bird up like that.....
