My Jasper smells bit musty is that normal? bit like wet sawdust I have showered him for first time doesnt seem to smell as bad now.

Keep up with the showers, it is good for him and also for him to get used to them and importantly to like having them. A real PIA if you have a bird that is not keen on getting wet! Each time us humans pet our parrots we deposit a little oil from our skin onto their feathers.

Ekkies do have a unique smell, for sure. I think I've noticed the entire house smells intensely like fruit when Parker starts getting into intense hormones.

He doesnt need a vet as fruit can make the poop runny its in all books etc and on bird tricks website aswell as others. He is healthy boy I just need to try to make him smell less musty or I wont be able to keep him. His health and well being is just as important as yet though he isnt keen on veg but that is because he is only young and need to take small steps at a time.

wont be able to keep him because he has an odor???? you just got him a few days ago?

Parrots are amongst the LEAST smelly animals out there. I have never heard of anyone find the parrot smell so offensive they'd be willing to get rid of their bird over it! I've actually never heard of anyone who didn't like it before actually. Yes, many of them do have a pleasant light musty odor and yes it is more noticeable when they are wet. I am not totally sure on eclectus, but in amazons, the musty odor is a sign they are happy and most people find it a nice smell. There is a running joke in the avian community about being addicted to "huffing" our birds because they smell so nice:)

Perhaps you are just more sensitive to it, but if you find the odor that offensive it could be more than the 'typical' bird smell and possibly a sign of infection. Except for the occasional bird breath, parrots should never stink and nor should their poop. Probably worth a trip to the vet to be sure, especially if he's having runny poops too. Do the poops smell?

Congratulations on your new addition to the family. Have you taken him to a vet since you got him. Most of us would take our birds to the vet for a general wellness check up shortly after adding them to our family/flock I presume you will be doing the same with your Ekkie so when you go to the vet ask your Avian Vet about the smell... it could be you have a very sensitive nose but it could also be an issue with your ekkie that needs to be dealt with.

I must be weird because I absolutely LOVE the way Oliver smells...often I press my nose into his feathers just to take in his natural fruity smell. Now my puppy...hmmmm ...yucko on the smell when she eats her stinky rawhide! ;o)

I dont find it offensive it is seriously effecting my asthma!!!!! I dont want to send Jasper back. I have to think of my health as I have ended up in hospital. The poops dont smell its just him. I am really upset about it all as I researched so damn hard on finding a parrot what is good for those with chest problems. I never thought he would smell so musty. I am hoping changing his diet helps.
