For a while now I thought the twins have been getting along better than normal. I wanted to get them in the same cage but I don't have an empty cage big enough to fit two Amazons.
I did not want to shell out a lot of money on a new cage and find out they still cant get along.

I took the side off of Merlin's cage and pushed it right up against Luna's cage.
I took the food/water dish door and fixed it in an open position. Now the birds can go between cages if they want a little space from each other.

This is still just temporary. If they really do settle down I will gladly fork over the money for a condo for 2.

The twins spent the night together without a problem.
The problem starts when Merlin starts playing. He gets all wound up and then tries to take it out on Luna.
Luna knows she can scoot over to the other cage and then Merlin leaves him alone.

I haven't figured out the best placement for the food dishes.
Too close together and it will cause arguments.

keeping a close eye on them and will see how things progress.

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
Here's the thing---they WILL mate and then you will have serious genetic issues...really wouldn't go this route, as you are going to get them attached and then have to tear them apart. They can mate VERY quickly and then you will have messed up babies on your hands and an even more serious space issue (as babies will also all need their own cages to prevent this from happening again and again..)

From just a structural view point, it is possible to joint the two cages with a bit of cutting side panel(s) and then drilling to be able to connect the two cages together. But, your solution is much better for a testing period as everything you have done is temporary.

Best of luck with the twins working it out.

FYI: The two Amazons are both: "2 GCA(Luna,Merlin)"

Birds are unrelated to each other.

I don’t know the gender of the birds.
Soon as things get back to normal will be taking them for DNA test.

GCA = green cheek amazon

Report card time.

Birds are still together. I have only had to separate them twice.
I would give Luna an A.
Merlin doesn't rate better than a C.

It's allways Merlin that causes problems.
If luna is eating something Merlin has to have it. It doesn't matter that they have the same food in each dish (the both have a food dish).
The normal chain of events is this.
Both start eating.
Merlin drops his food.
Not a problem... I (Merlin) can get Luna's food.
Merlin steals Lunas food.
Merlin promptly drops food.

Other problem is when Merlin get to "playing".
He gets carried away and will lung at Luna. Luna is learning to give Merlin a wide berth when he gets like that.

I am keeping a close eye on them and seeing how things develop.

Every couple seems to have an imbalance in their relationship. With hope they will work it out -- but the watchful eye will be needed long into the future. Your steadfastness will, with hope, keep the bad behavior to a minimum...

Nice timing with retirement, good friend!
