Thinking about an amazon

Hello! I REALLY want an amazon and I found a good deal on a Blue Fronted Amazon. I already have 2 sun conures and a Senegal. The thing is I’m in an apartment for a couple months while we are shopping for a house and im nervous about noise. My suns are super loud and piercing. Would it be much worse the. The conures. I’ve also had ringnecks in the appartment too and haven’t had a noise complaint.

Well Amazons are no louder then your current flock. I hope. Are Amazons different then other species? Yes. Smarter? As a group, probably not, though the ones I've known and had say yes. When you come down to it though, it depends on the individual parrot.

Just beware of deals that are too good to be true. They usualy arent.
So tell us more about your prospective BFA - how old? From a breeder or a pet shop or a private owner? Why are you getting a good deal?

yea good deals could be a flag,
my lilac crown i paid 1700 clams for
hand raised.at that same time i found one at another local
aviary for 950.00 after talking with the folks i bought Lily from
they bought out that aviary, but the guy wanted to much for his harness business
so they just bought the birds and have moved them from his property to their own. yes this is the Aviator harness guy, yes they are made in Sunbury,Oh.
was told by the now owners that at that price i would have gotten a bird i would not have been able to visit during weaning,also there was very little attn that got paid to the young-uns other then feeding time, so i did not mind paying the extra for a solidly raised chic that i was involved in the weaning period., as for noise i also have a sunny and he is more vocal then Lily but she does have her moments but all i have to do is say calm down Lily and it stops.as for smarts i would put her right up there with my Eclectus, she is behind him in talking but she is coming along good, now the Eclectus is not that noisy and talks all the time. he has gotten to the point of he just spits out stuff i don't even try and teach him, where Lily has about a dozen things she says and it seems like she is learning it from the other birds. however i will say at times she is a little nibbler but never a real biter.

"Good deal" is relative. Is the bird a newly weaned hand reared uber cuddly baby, a parent raised baby who's fearful of humans, a juvenile who's sat in a pet store for a while and not sold, an older rescue, a rescue with behavioral problems??? Our BFA was $350 (9 years ago). 10-ish years old, had been through a couple homes, hormonally aggressive, stubborn, prior owner wanted him gone... Those factors played into how much we paid. A hand fed baby would have cost many times that, but we were happy to give a bird like him a loving home and were fully dedicated to working with him. Assuming the OP has ruled out a scam, they also need to be sure that the "good deal" isn't a little too good to be true (I.E. what's wrong with the bird and are you willing to put in the effort to correct it?).

As for the noise level, my BFA *can* be loud (if he wants) but he is actually quiet most of the time and rarely vocalizes louder than conversation-level noise. We sublet for a few years and the homeowners had an IRN. Not that it bothered us as fellow bird owners, but the IRN vocalized more frequently and (on average) more loudly than our BFA ever does. Our BFA has lived in a studio and 1 bedrooms with us, a sublet basement and now we own a condo. Never a single noise complaint. Neither of the zons I grew up around (DYH, GCA) were particularly noisy either. Our BFA is a funny guy, always playing and acting like a big goofball. I adore him. Not the cuddling lap bird type, but nonetheless, still my little buddy

like sailboats said you have a busy year ahead of you without an amazon around. It's going to be stressful and I think bringing a newcomer into that torrent of emotion isn't exactly fair on them. Also you're needing the money to buy your home! Don't forget why you're in an apartment in the first place. Lastly space, with your current flock and your furniture it must be cramped as is. factor in a massive cage to that along with the zon themselves and suddenly you're doing a good impression of a pack of sardines

I think right now isn't the best time to get a bird, you may want one but in this situation you have to put your needs above all else including your wants
