Like the inexperienced & too-clever-for-my-own-good DIY'er that I am, I was fiddling with a KNIFE on a toy-in-progress yesterday. It was a Global knife so it is super sharp. I don't have to tell you what happened, eh? Sliced my LH first finger right on the first knuckle, right to the bone! Blood everywhere, toy ruined, off to the ER. Got me TWO stitches!
I guess I should be thankful it happened with a chefs knife and not my new drill or jigsaw...
Please don't tell my son I was using his very expensive knives on Percy toys, he may just kill me ;). He's a budding chef and his knives are "untouchable"m but sometimes they are just the tool I need!
What ills have befallen you whilst making goodies for your fids?

I have never made a mistake making fid toys.

Lets see, drilled a hole in the counter top... Yeah, I'll stop here before I incriminate myself.

MtP I'm sorry you got hurt - and I'm glad that it wasn't more serious, we all learn from our mistakes

this is not bird related, but when I read your post it took me back to what happened to my hubby....

we were on vacation at a rental cottage.. while making dinner, the can opener did not work, so he used a hand crank one....well the lid didn't come all the way off, so he decided to use his thumbs to push it up and away from himself, well, his finger slipped and...use you imagination on what happened next:eek:

bandaged it up, with lots of screaming(coming from me), we ate dinner, then off to the hospital and he got 6 stitches!!

to this day I will not let him open another can with a hand can opener

I am so glad you didn't get seriously injured!

Those handcrank openers are just an accident waiting to happen! Glad your hubby didn't loose a digit.

Oh no! So sorry you were hurt and glad it wasn't any worse!

Omg! Yikes!!! glad you're ok and it wasn't worse!

I have a finger story... My husband (a general contractor) was using a small sledge hammer one day... Ended up in the hospital getting the tip of his index finger re-attached.

My ex was holding two pieces of wood together, when we went to attach a screw his hand slipped and he screwed himself to the wood. Went to the ER, they had to call the the janitor to get a screwdriver to get it out. Still laughing... So glad we're not married anymore.

I was slicing carrots for the birds and managed to nearly remove the pad of my left index finger. And, like CaptSteve, I've also drilled a hole in the kitchen bench. Or two. (Shhh... no one knows but me! I filled 'em with polyclay - the only thing I had to hand - and coloured over 'em with permanent marker. It's our secret, OK?)

LOL your secret is safe... Shhhhhhh
