We have a very similar one for our dogs, but I do not recall it costing nearly that much, but it also wasn't fully wireless. The main reservoir is underneath the shallow pan, so it holds a lot of water, but the upper portion is shallow. I think it would be a good option if it was cleaned often - the upside of this particular style, imo, is that most of it is stainless and can go straight into the dishwasher so it's easy to clean. I don't know how they're magically proposing that it will prevent soup-making - Buddy would have that thing full of nut shells and berry peels in 5 minutes; I also don't like that they recommend weekly cleaning. That would not cut it for us.

We used to have a different, birdbath-style fountain for everyone to play in when we had our first indoor aviary set up, which was a play space rather than permanent housing, and we ended up only putting water in occasionally, since it was a pain to clean.

It’s advertised as a nessisary way to keep the water free of bacterial growth. But you bring up some good points.
It looks more like a luxury marketed AS a “must have” to keep your birds healthy.

The old “hard sell” with some guilt driven push.

Circulation alone doesn't clean anything, and the more parts, the more nooks for bacteria to grow.

We just do stainless bowls that go into the dishwasher every night for most of the birds. Buddy's often gets changed multiple times a day because he's a professional soup maker.

My daughter has similar one for her cats. It definitely wasn't that expensive. Water source was from under bathroom sink. Her cats didn't like it. Her dogs did. But they got hissed at. Thought about using it for my dog. He's in another room. But he's allergic to running water. He melts. Never occurred to me to let Nameliss have a go. I don't know what she did with it.
