Tomorrow Mr. Reno and I are going on a road trip!! We will be travelling 2 hours away from home to visit a Certified Avian Spe******t! I will be learning grooming techniques and so much more! Plus the lady is going to start charting him. (Weight, food, behavior, etc) She said it is easier for her to help me do the correct things if she can show me hands on. It is also easier for her to see his personality and how he is individually as parrots are so different just as humans. She also told me that I need to turn my fears of what I recently found out with Toos into a proactive measure to ensure that I will have the knowledge to do everything I can to prevent it. I absolutely agree!

My question is on the traveling. What to expect? Should I keep him in his small portable the whole time, or let him out occasionally? I am taking a bunch of fruit to ensure he stays hydrated. Not sure what else I need to consider during our trip.

Thanks for any and all suggestions:)

I keep Puck in his travel cage when we're driving unless someone else is there to hold him. I like to keep him on the passenger seat (with seatbelt) so we can see each other and I can reach over and pet him. If he gets hungry he gets iratable and makes a lot of noise, but other than that I haven't had any trouble!

Oh shoot, I can't find the link now, but yesterday on here I found a link someone posted on the dangers of airbags, and how travel cages should be in the back, and secured somehow for in case of accident. I gotta run to school now, but I'll try and track it down for you when I get home.

Also, I don't know how practical it is to keep a water dish in a moving car, but maybe you could bring a coop cup with you and offer him water when you get there, or when you make a pit stop for yourself.

Yes airbag is a problem so maby have the cage where ther is no airbag. Regarding water and food: I dont think that Puck will eat and dring doring the travel so be sure that he is eating and drinking before going. I think Puck should be in the cage all the way

I would keep him in the cage the whole time just for safety. You could put a toy in with him to keep him occupied. I think the fruit is a good idea. The airbag could definately hurt him in the event it went off. Some vehicles though you can turn off the passenger airbag, or as in my car the passenger airbag won't go off unless there's more than a certain number of pounds in the seat. (I can't remember how many at the moment maybe it's 10 or 20?)

I went to a bird supply store with Geordie about 45mins-1hr away about a month or so ago and it went really well! We put him in the back right-side passenger seat in his smallish travel cage and got the seat belt around it. He seemed totally calm and made honking noises, I swear to god! He even seemed to fall asleep at a point.

Thanks everyone so much! We are half way there and all is going well. Just so long as he doesn't chew his whole portable by the time we get there. Lol
