Too talk

Just a quick question. At what age will a Too start talking if they are going to? My BE girl is almost 11 months now and has been saying "Oh O" like a small child would when she knocks over something since about 5 months. Sometimes she will rearrange the parts of the phrase or repeat one part over and over but has never tried to say anything for real. This "Oh O" is something she did herself as we never said that to her. More of a natural vocalization for her. Makes me no differance. If I wanted a talker I would have got a Gray but everyone all ways ask "When is she going to talk?"

Some parrots will talk and some will never talk. Love your bird for what he is not what he can say.

the "uh oh" sound is a natural corella vocalisation, mine does it as well and it so incredibly cute. I say it back to mine when he says it.
I am currently attempting to curb his excessive screaming. I have been away at college all week and left my partner in charge. Big mistake :/ Everytime the corella screamed he went over to it and either talked to it or misted it with the water bottle. Now it thinks scream = attention. Three days worth of reinforcing a horrible behaviour is going to take months to correct I am so sad.

Too's are just like children, their ability to talk along with how quickly they begin to talk varies greatly. My first galah didn't say a word until he was about 12 months old and at the time I lost him he was only saying a few things.
Mana, my second galah is only 6 months old and already has a vocabulary that would rival a grey. Of course its the squeeky little galah voice, but she has literally blown me away. She will even mimic words she has never said or heard before immediately if she likes the sound of them. Like you I wasn't fussed either way if my birds talked, but I am amazed she is so brilliant.
My corella (BE2) is about 12-14 weeks and is saying a few things not very well. "Whatcha doin" "Hello" etc. All the simple things. He is now also picking up "whatcha talkin bout".

I will be glad once he has settled in and dialled back the screaming. He makes a sound I have never heard a corella make before...

Ever heard yours make this sound? He was handreared and weaned in a cage next to a black cockatoo... the sound he makes sounds to me like a corella trying to sound like a black cockatoo. It lacks the high pitched quavering of a normal corella call. Its interesting, but its not what I was prepared for and it makes me anxious. We have corellas in the area who call all the time so I figured no one would notice my corella. But because my corella doesnt sound like a corella I am getting nervous the neighbours will complain. I mean, the one to our left complained because my partner mowed a 4 inch strip over the property line on his lawn And by complain... I mean he jumped on top of the fence and YELLED and threatened my partner.

Nope never heard Aerial make any sound like that before! She really has just four sounds. The "Oh O", a simi soft squawk, a clicking sound almost like an old time type writter and her full on demanding squawking scream when she's mad! She was partially parent bird reared than hand weaned so I'm sure she picked up her parents calls.
I see your little boy is all read doing what my wife calls the "Shawn T exercise program "!lol Aerial will get on a front perch and half extend her wings then bounce up and down for an hour while making a soft squawk to be let out. Every so often she decides that its not working and throws what can only be described as a full melt down fit!! She will attack a toy, swinging upside down flapping her wings and scream at the top of her lungs then pop back on perch and act like nothing happened. Its so funny to watch. Your boy has not started to get loud yet!! Neighbor sounds like he needs an additude adjustment! I'll try and post video of her begging. She's never paid attention to until she is only squawking softly by the way.

I have a very gifted talking Galah, clear, loud, in front of anyone, varied, and often. One of the things that I noticed right away is that he was saying small words and vocalizing (or tying to) before he was even weaned. I purchased him from a really great parrots-only store and they spend a lot of time with the babies, talking to them and working with them, but this particular baby seemed more inclined than the others to communicate in that way. As I visited in the months it took to fully wean him, I chose this particular baby because his willingness to communicate in this way was endearing to me. In the past 11 years he's really added a lot to his vocabulary. While talking parrots are a lot of fun, it also gets old, too. LOL I also have a 20-year-old BF Amazon that only says a couple of human words, yet she has a more elaborate communication system than even the English-speaking Galah.

LOL it does seem like he is in love with his wings! He puts his face under his wing and coos... its so cute. He is such a funny little dude.
Since taking that video, things have gotten so much worse LOL My partner refuses to be consistent. He gets annoyed and turns around and looks at him and comments.
He found his lungs and he uses them. I didn't think it was possible to scream at the top of your lungs with little more than a second in between, he proved me wrong LOL
I have to get video of it, its amazing. Unfortunately I am stressing about the council being called. We aren't meant to have two cockatoos here, I could hide Mana because her volume is nothing compared to his. I have no hope of hiding him! lol I tested it today, even put away in the most sound proof room with all windows in the house closed, I could hear him from the street in front of our house.

OOwl... I have a very very young voice, I am always told I sound like I am about 16 years old on the phone LOL Our galah mimics both my voice and my partners voice, but mostly mine. Her version of my little 16yo girls voice is so darn adorable! She can not do anything wrong. lol she has replaced almost all her calls with english and all she has to do is puff up her face feathers and ask "do you want a cuddle sweetie?" and the chewed walls are forgotten!!! Her mimicking my partners voice is comical, she sounds like she has a frog in her throat LOL She is a very small galah, 260grams and 30cm long. So precious!

Oh my god she is adorable!! So little and precious, I love the little corella's fluffy little head. I love her version of the let me out dance as well!!
Wish mine would peep like that LOL I have heard him make the angry/frustrated screech as well and I prefer that to his opera singing call LOL He is trying to talk which I guess is a bonus but wish it would happen sooner! lol

She is definitely a little corella, mine is meant to be a little corella but I am starting to suspect he may be a western corella, he is huge and has a very flat head and long beak like the western corellas.

I get the feeling he doesn't want to be a captive bird though :/ The first thing he did this morning was fly towards the window again. He continues to attempt to fly outside. I am beginning to feel guilty. I still haven't bird proofed my patio, not that I am sure he would be happy with that in itself. Mana, my galah, is very happy with captive life, I am certain of that. I don't know why I get the feeling that he (the corella) isn't. His favourite place is a perch by the window. He loves cuddles and plays with me on his back, he is so gentle and loving. He snuggles into the back of my neck with his face in my ear making baby dinosaur noises. But I still have this overwhelming feeling he wants to be free. I am starting to consider something I said I never would, training him how to fly and allowing him freedom to come and go. He'd most likely bond with a wild corella and never come back

I'm sorry you feel yours wants out in the wild. Remember he is really young and will adapt. For good or bad our parrots are at best only a few generations removed from wild free parrots. One can argue and do that keeping any parrot is wrong. I don't as long as they are not wild caught.
Aerial seems happy as a clam to be in captivity. Of course she has no choice as it is in the 30's outside and she would not make it. She is little. Only 265ish grams. She never carries any extra weight between her cage work out and flying around the house. I use to worry as her breast bone is so pronounced but she eats both her pellets and fresh vegs well I have just tossed it up to her make up. She had a complete blood and fecal work up as well as B&F test back in Sept. and has been isolated from any other birds so I think she is healthy.
One thing that helps is she is in a huge cage. Inside 107x76x122cm or 4 foot tall 3 1/2 wide and 2 1/2 deep. I cut wild muscadine vine which I bake the smaller ones or soak the ones to big for oven with vinegar then place in her cage as perches. At least once a week or more I completely rearrange them and or change out for new ones. Normally 5 to seven perches at one time from a foot long to four foot. I make many of her toys and fortunately her favorites are a baked pine trees cone hung from a strip of vegetable tan leather or small sweetgum limbs I bake, drill hole in and hang with a stainless kabob. She takes shower at least every other day with me then towel dried and blow dried. Sits on her perch at supper table and eats with us. Yea she's unless! LOL

We have noticed keeping our corella up longer until the sun has visibly gone down seems to be the solution to his screaming. Interesting. lol
He has a huge cage as well, about the same size as yours but he is a much bigger bird, I think he would weigh twice what your little lady does Though he only sleeps in it, he is out most of the time.
It is the first time I ever felt this way, I am pretty sure its me that will have to do the adapting and get over the guilt LOL He will soon enough have a huge outdoor area to fly in, its not perfect but captivity is heaps safer then being 'free'.

Your little lady looks perfectly healthy She is about the same weight as my galah and she is in the weight range of the little corella We are still trying to get ours interested in showers LOL so far water bowls are their preferred method. We used to share dinner with the birds as well but Mana was too bossy about it LOL now they get food on their play stands instead of close enough to jump onto plates LOL
