Yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure - Hatch Day 12/11/15 - "Tiki"
So since Tiki is in her cage for a good majority of the weekdays i make sure to rearrange her toys and perches frequently so she doesnt get bored. Two months ago i put foot toys (little slotted balls with bells in them for cats) and crinkle balls and a couple ping pong balls in her cage with her, just for something different. This little bird has been chasing these balls around the bottom of her cage, rolling over on her back with them in her feet, standing on one and shaking another, pushing the ping pong ball around and just squawking and doing that play scream for an hour now. I've heard her playing with them before but she stops when i look usually. I'm absolutely cracking up over here. I love this little creature!

Anyone else have a little clown?

Its the bell. Mine has a hang up ball with a bell inside. I swear he goes after the hanging ball with the bell first thing in the morning and the last thing at night.

Parrots at play are so amusing to watch, regardless of species.

That is adorable! I must try ping pong balls for my new babies---they are not too interested in toys so far:(

Tiki took a little to play with toys. She loved leather strip toys too.

It's taken Romeo (macaw) to figure out toys are good too. He has these wooden balls on chains that he likes to clack but that's it.

He has this giant toy, full of wood block on ropes (short ropes that one be problems) and he's totally ignored it.

Then yesterday I come home and there's wood splinters everywhere. One of the blocks (1x1x4 inches) just spontaneously exploded yesterday. I'm sure it was just spontaneous. No way Romeo had anything to do with it since he won't even acknowledge the toy if I'm in the room.

You should set up a video camera to run a couple hours a day to see what she does while you're gone.

I had a budgie as a young teen that just loved to play.

I would be doing homework at the kitchen table, while Wally was out and about, and he'd play on the table as I worked. His favorite "toy" was a small, empty medication bottle, that he'd roll around on the table, stand on it,bang it with his beaky, yell at it,twittle to it..it kept him busy, and amused ( and out of my hair!) for hours.
The simplest little things made him such a happy camper lol.

Wrench13 is right, parrots are so amusing to watch, especially at play. They all have their own styles. The ping pong balls are a great idea, it sounds like Tiki is having the time of her life. My GCC thinks EVERYTHING outside of his cage was made by God for her, and her only. She fiddle faddles with her cage toys, but as soon as she sees me she hangs upside down by one foot to draw attention to how adorable she is. Her favorite toy is "steal the toothpick". My Suns are just goofs and play with everything. I have seen them all on their back in their happy hut, expecially when they are drying off, but I have never seen them spontaneously lay on their back and play. You'll have to send a video! So adorable.

Yep, Bowie my yellow-sided green cheek conure is absolutely a little clown! I have the plastic cat balls that are slotted and have the bell inside them in the bottom of his cage as well, in addition to a set of little chew toys shaped like a hot dog and a hamburger that are really for hamsters and guinea pigs, and a little barbell that has bells in each end...this barbell is his favorite, he rolls onto his back and puts it on his feet in the air. He also carries it around in his mouth, and when he stands still with it in his mouth and is looking at me or looking around the room, it actually looks like he's doing lifts with the barbell! It's adorable!

Bowie also figured out how to throw the cat balls, and can actually get some good distance if he's outside his cage on the floor throwing them...however, the funniest thing he does is when he's trying to throw the balls INSIDE his cage! He picks a ball up in his mouth, pulls his head back, and then throws the ball as hard and as high as he can. Then the ball hits the side of his cage, ricochets off, and scares him to death... he'll actually do his "I'm terrified" squawks as the ball bounces back at him and he's running away, trying to dodge it...then he does it again!

Brings to my mind the evil bounceyball which Wrench sent to the Rickeybird, who still has to hurl it from the roof of his penthouse before settling down! I'd include a vid but I've already spammed threads way too much! See? I have a conscience. :)
