Toy-making/Family Bonding Time

Yeah a happy accident. I noticed him doing it often so i though id give it a try. He says good boy every time now so its in his mind that this is where i want him to poop. Its 50/50 success rate so far. I guess with all they have the ability to learn that this isnt the hardest thing really. I wouldnt want to teach him to poop on command, it doesnt seem natural to me.

Do your guys like the nets on the tree stands? Ive never had one for Xander. Where would be a good place to hang it? X

Disneyland on a perch!

Hahahahaha! Thanks, Sunshine!

Kind of. He poops often in it so i figured id try positive reinforcement to potty train him to use that bowl only. He knows its good now so ill keep at it. Best outcome being him always just pooping in the bowl. The reward is an Anansi tree stand if he gets this down x

A happy accident? Sweet! Something tells me Xander will be earning his tree stand in short order!

Anansi, what do you use in the base of the tree stand, cat litter?

That's great, what brand and where can I get it?
thx :)

I'll have to get back to you on that. The last of it was used and someone threw out the bag without checking for the name. (Okay. I'm the someone in question. But in my defense, I'm fairly sure I'll know the bag when I see it... I think...) Anyhow, once I find out the name, I'll definitely post it here for you.

Haha :D you’re funny.
That’s fine when ever no hurry. I actually use the puppy pee pads & I really like them a lot. Very easy clean up, I just roll them up and all the debris stays inside the roll. They work well. :smile049:

One thing just occurred to me with the bowl training. What if Xander takes what he's learned and starts implementing it with all bowls everywhere? Could get a bit... untidy when it comes to the food bowls. Ouch.

Yes, they do enjoy the nets for climbing on the tree stands. But they enjoy them far more in the cages, as they tear them to shreds along with all of the toys on them in there. In the cages, I just hang them on the walls. Straight on Maya's, and wedged into a corner on Bixby's. As for placement, it's all about best guess trial and error... and respecting the poop lines. Lol!

I use the puppy pee pads as well! Just not on the stands, as Jolly flies down there from time to time. (Still working on training him out of that, but it's the one habit he's decided to be stubborn about. Grrr!) I usually get to him within a second or two, but on the off-chance he ever gets down there and takes a nibble before I can intercept, I'd rather it be organic paper down there. So I use the pads for the floor when I take them over to someone else's house. (Fortunately, Jolly never flies to the floor.) They're great!

Its tricky with the pooping. He is gonna go in that bowl anyway lol. Its one of his spots but i dont want him pooping in every bowl. Maybe i should leave it be then to not run the risk. We are set up pretty tidy anyway to where no cage accessories get dirty. If its not broke dont fix it. Im gonna try him with a net. I think he will like it just to chew to pieces x

Question. What stand do you have? Name and or brand, as it looks amazing.

Oh, yeah! Just to give you an idea, here are before and after pics of the first set of net toys I'd set up for their cages...

They've torn up others far worse, but I didn't get around to taking pics.

Thanks! I don't have any brand names or anything, but they are both java wood tree stands. Java wood is great because it is very durable and stands up to abuse by the toughest beaks. (Though Maya does get ornery and bite a chunk off every once in a while in a fearsome display of razor-edged beak strength.)

Just thought I'd update this thread with a little video of Jolly enjoying his tree stand.

And a few pics of Lady Maya. I was barely able to catch any of her on the other stand, and nothing serviceable on video. She's a lot more elusive, as she tends to stop and stare at me as soon as she realizes I'm even looking in her direction. Lol!

Aw I love it!! They look quite content:)

I also love that you use those pellets there at the base. I tried using something on Parker’s portable stand we keep him on when, say, doing dishes or laundry and we want him with us, but he chews them up! Now I use the shredded paper.

Oh, those pellets are paper! It's a green litter that uses paper formed into those pellets so that they are relatively safe for ingestion. Well... not counting the eventual poop and such, of course. And you don't get any of the respiratory dangers that you'd get from regular cat litter, either.

Unfortunately, Jolly also often tries to fly down there to munch on any treats that might have fallen from the cup up top. Obviously not cool, given said poop. It's the one behavioral thing I still have to work on with him.

Not an issue for Maya, as she still stubbornly refuses to fly and thus has no way to get down there.

About the puppy-poo-pads... I use the much cheaper disposable incontinence bed liners for people. Embarassing to buy, but they're free of the materials that are applied to the puppy pads. Safer, I would think, especially if a bird walks on them or beaks them. I started ordering them online.

That's a good idea. Especially if they are that much cheaper than the puppy version. What brand do you get for RB?
