I was the same in the beginning. Their favorites have been anything light that can hang from the ceiling so they can attack it upside down. I put a main rope perch from side to side below the toys so they are tempted to play. Another favorite is a coiled piece of an old plastic dog leash. At Petco or in a kids section at a store you can buy link type toys, those work great for anything! I have tons of extra ones for using as a vertical climbing toy attached to the ceiling and the floor or a main perch. I also use then to dangle toys from. Birds love preening toys and even just a feather duster! I went to Jo Ann fabric store and purchased four inches of several kinds of ropes, people say never to use ropes or strings because they can get wrapped in it, so four inches tied in half works well and have been safe for my birds. I don't use any toys with metal on it unless I know the metal is safe. You can buy plastic cable ties and attach a bunch of wooden sticks inside of the cage on the walls to chew on. It's proven to prevent screaming for my birds. Just don't cut off the extra plastic end because it can be sharp. I always have a ladder from cage to floor to help them get in the cage incase of an emergency. Cheap plastic bird toys seem to be another favorite. Avoid mirrors and bells with a ball in them! They can eat the ball. They sell special ones for birds. Cat toys work well too, but some of them have too soft of plastic and my birds eat them. Shreddable toys also work great.
