Hi again. Does anyone have travel cage recommendations for Ava? I have a Prevue Hendryx foldable carrier for vet visits/going outside to get sunshine, etc. However, I’m looking for something that’s a bit roomier & more durable for times that she’ll need to be in a travel cage for a few days.

I'm planning on getting a Pak-o-bird. They are NOT cheap (the one up here will cost me, with shipping, about $450 CDN), but they're made for parrots. STainless steel sides, reinforced zippers. It's most people's go-to :D. For Vortex, I have a top-loading cat carrier. Gives it a little bit more breathing room :)

I recently shopped for a new transport cage and got one similar to what you have. I ran across several larger and sturdier ones on Amazon that would be more suitable for travel and something more than a quick trip to the vet's office. I don't know if they're available in Canada but I would guess that they are. Just search for "travel cages" or "transport cages," and they'll probably turn up. I think there was one from A & E Cages and one from Preview, along with lots of unfamiliar brands. I've heard of the Big Al's stores around Canada and maybe they would have something suitable too.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up! :D

I’m up here too. The shipping always gets you! 😵‍💫

Verify the weight you're able and willing to tote around. Evaluate convenience of use too. Sister bought me an expensive travel/hotel carrier for my CAG. I used to be a have parrot will travel person. It's sitting in garage because I'm physically unable to tote it around. (Don't want to hurt her feelings.) She's also the sis who sent Nameliss 8# of sunflower seeds this past Xmas. Nameliss might eat a pound in a year! I don't eat them.

Off topic but is Canadian customs and import taxes still the bear they were years ago?

I ended up ordering this. It’s bigger than the Prevue foldable carrier, & a lot sturdier. I know it’s going to be heavy, but for the times I’ll need to board Ava with Button’s breeder (I’m so thankful to have a trustworthy person who will board both of my birds), I think Ava will be more comfortable in this. I was looking at dog kennels, but the bar spacing is mostly 1 1/4” for those, which makes me super nervous. Once it arrives, I’ll keep everyone posted if it’s any good. I so wish the large King’s aluminum cages were still available. 🫤

Sad but true, they still are. I don't think anything's changed except the price.

Pretty much. Luckily, my family is all in MT, so I’m able to order items to their homes & bring stuff back with me customs & duty free, with certain exemptions. It can be pretty expensive to order anything to Canada.

That's just the sort of cage I had in mind when I made my earlier post. They're a little too big and heavy for a vet visit or short local trip but seem to be just right for travel or slightly longer term housing. Hope it works well for you.

Thank you! I have a similar Avian Adventures one for my lovebird, but it still feels a bit too small for an Amazon. I was happy to see that this one is larger. I hope it’s a decent quality! 🤞
