Ok so I just got my gcc thursday. We had to travel approx. 2 hrs. to pick him up and 2 hrs. back. I go stay with my boyfriend often throughout the week and I don't want to leave Rizzy at home. There would be two other people in the house if I did leave him but I'd rather take him with me. My boyfriend lives about 30 mins. away and Rizzy has a small travel cage. I've taken him over twice and he doesn't seem to mind traveling he just hangs out or eats his pellets. Would traveling with him often stress him out too bad though??? I don't want it to be detrimental to his health but I enjoy having him with me especially since we're still at the beginning bonding stage of our relationship. Rizzy doesn't seem to mind the ride but I don't want him to get stressed by it. Anyone else travel frequently with their birds? It's not a long commute but still. It's nice and warm out here in NC so no inclement weather to worry about and I keep the windows up so he won't catch a cold breeze. Any thoughts or help to ease my mind about this would be greatly appreciated :)

If he didn't seem to mind the ride home, I wouldn't worry, all of mine are road warriors & are wiling to go for a ride anytime.....

two of mine love traveling, they often go on road trips with me and on the road for 12 hour at a time , they just sit on the head rest and talk or sing along to the radio.so if yours does not seem to mind i would not worry to much , just keep any eye on him.

Mine travels with me four hours to and from my second home and loves it. I make sure he has some goodies to eat and water. He talks part of the way and sleeps the other part.

Thanks everyone that really eases my mind. I will make sure he has goodies to keep busy and so long as he doesn't seem to mind he'll be my lil roadie.

I travel with mine all the time. Short and long trips and its been great. Sounds like he is already a lil road warrior. I think it makes for a more rounded and social bird! Best of luck and happy travels! Ps I do have a "smaller" travel cage that I try to set up in somewhat of the same fashion of the big one as far as placement of perches and food/water.

I don't think it's a problem, only a 30 min drive. Just make sure you have secured the cage somewhere in the car. God forbid if anything happened on the road , Rizzy will have a good chance of surviving.

Good point Birdlover11! One time coming home from the vet I had a blow out and pulled off into a load of construction --half my car on the highway and the other half on the side of the road where there was no shoulder. I had to climb out of my passenger side window for fear I'd get hit while in the car. So, out the window I went with Oliver in tow--thank goodness I had a carrier.
