Unscrupulous Breeder

I second contacting the Florida fish and wildlife commision.

Sorry but I think it will be difficult to prove that they already had the PDD before you got the. For sure I think they had it, but prove it will not be easy

I would follow up with the breeder, file a lawsuit, and contact the Fish and wildlife commission, in this instance, your birds are not the only animals at risk, it is your responsibility to ensure that this incidence is not repeated and that those animals that are infected do not suffer. I understand that this undertaking may seem daunting, however it must be done. I would further consult your veterinarian and see what the opinion of the vet is regarding the matter. Would they testify, gain all records and have copies made. ect.

First of all, I am so sorry you lost your babies. I do agree this person should be reported. A good breeder stands behind their birds. I use to breed for over 15 yrs. I always had a guarantee.
Even if you had taken these babies to be checked PDD would not have been able to be diagnosed. You have no other birds so obviously they carried the illness from their parents. If you could PM me the Aviary name I would be very interested. I would not accept any babies as replacements if he offers. I would demand my money back. If he has a licensed business you can report him.

He didn't give a business/aviary name. Just his name which may or may not be accurate. I filed the report with the Wildlife Commission today. We'll see where that leads to.

Just a newbie question...did you have a new or used cage? Could PDD be contracted via use of a used cage that has not been disenfected?

Curious due to the fact that I'm looking for a used cage.
