Parrots
Kiki - Indian Ringneck ( 2010 - 2011 )
Hey people. My mom wanted to keep an eye on the parrot, and when I returned home, she told me that he flied over the room and he knocked the door. He damaged his beak a little. Here is the picture :

Can you tell me what do do ? I will appreciate your help. Thanks in advance ! I will never give a parrot to anyone. Never again ! :(

While I would definitely advise you to take him to the vet immediately, I would also say don't get too upset over it. If he's not acting hurt, or bleeding, he will most likely be okay.

My CAG broke the tip off of his beak when he was a youngster, doing exactly the same thing. He bled, and yelled a lot (it hurt a ton, I'm sure!), but he also enjoyed the several weeks of baby treatment (baby food and extra cuddles). I still should have taken him to the vet, but I really didn't know what I was doing at the time.

Take him to a good vet.

P.S. Clean that cage. I promise that will be good for him.

The problem is that is 10:36 PM now and there is no vet that works at night. The good thing is that he started to move and he is eating, and he is not bleeding.

PS. I clean his cage every day, I just always stick a piece of apple, carrot and other vegetables, fruit on cage, so it always looks dirty after that.

As soon as there is a vet available book an appointment. Until then as long as he is eating and drinking all you can really do is make sure he is comfortable until you can bring him to an AV. His beak will grow back to normal, just takes time :)

Ok. Thanks guys again ! You helped me alot. I just want to make sure he is allright :\ He is like my little brother. Thanks again !

Oh LOL...I just realized that is a carrot, and not a wooden perch jammed between the bars. That would explain the mess! ;) Good luck with him.

Is this the mom that put the ringneck parrot outside in the cold?

No, it's not her. The one who throw him on subzero temperature was father's second wife. :\

Had a good look at the pic & it doesn't look to bad. I have seen worst & they heal up very quick. Accidents happen so don't blame Mum to much.

I know that my mom isn't fault, but I always want to be sure he will be ok. The good thing is that he is eating, drinking and that is a good sign. But i'm not sure if I would take him to vet because outside is a subzero temperature and I don't want to be sick again, so I will try to call vet and see if he can come to my place. Thanks again !

PS. Here is two pics that I just took. I took this images few hours later after injury.

After he crashed, he had injury on beak, but he didnt yelled, there was not even a drop of blood. The problem was that he was 10 mins in shock. He didn't moved and he was very scared. After 10-20 mins, he is returned to normal.

To be honest Nikola, I really don't think there is to much the Vet can do for such a minor injury. As long as your baby is back to normal eating & drinking all is good.

One of my Eclectus had a disagreement with one of the others & ended up with piece missing from his beak. He was fine when the shock wore off. Although i did separate him from the rest. It took a while to grow out.

The beak is damaged but it will grow back, it is like a finger nail.
I would still take him to the vet, rather be safe than sorry.
Below is a link, where Mishka chipped his beak, members gave their input and advise, perhaps this will assist you as well

From the pics it doesn't seem to bad to me either. If he is eating and acting nml I think I would just keep an eye on him..

Hello people ! The parrot is much better now. I didn't had a chance to get him to vet because its -8 C outside and its very cold, so I didn't wanted him to get freeze. I called vet on the phone and explained situation, and he said if he didn't yelled, bleed and if he acts normal ( flies, walks,eat,drinks... ), he said that is a normal thing when parrots fly across room and its cause by parrot's disorientation and they always crash on something. He says that beak heals quickly. Because I had a money to spend, I bought him a new home. Check it out ! :)

It's a little taller and it has a swing, so he can enjoy on it.

Here is also a picture of his beak that I made few minutes ago :

Thanks everyone who assist me for help ! :)

The cage is always so clean in the begining!! looks nice! Lucky guy...Whats his name?

I called him Kiki :) He was somehow happy when he saw a new home. Here's what he has in cage :

1. 3 cups ( First for fruit and vegetable, second for seed and third for water )
2. One mirror
3. Few marbles. He loves to roll marbles.
4. One swing
5. 2 Ladders
6. One bell. He loves to ring bell
7. Some toy that has two balls hanged by rope.
8. 10 stands, so he can stand where he wants.

I plan to add more. I'm glad he is okay now :D

LOL...Sounds like Kiki is taking advantage of your guilty feelings. :D
Glad to hear the vet said he would be okay. He's a handsome guy (the bird, not the vet :D)
