I've been using this foraging straw cone thing that hangs from the top of my duskys' cages for their millet sprays and Nutriberries. Today Niko reached into the top of it to pull out the millet when his head got stuck inside it. He was flapping frantically and turning every which way to try to free himself from it. Even I had difficulty pulling him out, as the darn thing had tiny wire fasteners looping around the straw pieces which were acting like barb wiring. Thank God I was home when it happened.

If anyone has purchased this item (I got theirs at Walmart), please get rid of it immediately! Your birds' lives depend on it.

This incident has opened my eyes about birdie toy safety.

Good thing you were home when this horrible incident happened. Sometimes the hazards just slide past us

wow, thank god you were there!!, it sounds like it would have ended tragically. you should notify the manufacturer of what happened. can you provide a pic. of it??, I bet lots of bird owners have them, but are not sure what they look like from your description. I think I've seen them before at WalMart, but never bought them. I put my millet thru the bars.Guess you can never be too careful when choosing toys for birds.good for you for saving your bird!!!

Very scary indeed!! I am glad you were home to help your bird free. A picture would be good so that people know not to buy this :)

This is it: Millet spray holder from Petco. I purchased this from Walmart.

I have a plastic one like that and I had to take it from one of our budgies because she kept sticking her head through the holes and I was afraid that was going to happen. Now I just weave the stem of the millet through the cage bars and let it hang that way. Glad you were home when it happened so this didn't end any worse than it did.

I have that exact one, i got it from WalMart. Disposing of it now...
Its now in the trash! =)
Glad you were home and thank you for the warning.

Thank you for sharing!! I just turned on the lights and woke up my fids. I had the plastic ones in the cockatiels cage and the twine one in the conure cage.

Wow. What a story -- that's the stuff that nightmares are made of for parronts. Thanks for sharing and posting the picsl i had bought a different one and when i filled it up, i looked at it and thought - what if Pritti's foot gets stuck in there - and i never used it. Instead I got a funky looking purple, wavy sided long dish and i put a half spray in there, I also just dangle one from his java tree on cage topper.
