Wow check it out... Coconut has started to become soooooo happy whenever he sees a syringe... he races towards the syringe like some drug addicted lunatic!

I always give him a sunflower seed after he would take his meds so he now associates syringes with sunflower seeds LOL (He still has 5 days left of taking the tiniest amount of Metacam from his head injury)

I used to have to pin him down but he has quickly learned a syringe means his favorite treat is to follow... ANYTHING for a sunflower seed! LOL

Well Juliet it certainly looks like little 'Nut is well on his way to 100% health :D

Way to go! Good Coconut! Your video make me realize that I am neglecting a very important part of Tsali's life. He needs to learn to love they syringe just in the event that I ever need to give him meds. Going to get a new one from the vet and start working on this very important behavior.

Ya tell me about it. Check out my new thread on is new found "hobby" LOL

Looks like I'm going to have to remove the mirror from his cage because he's started to love himself just a little "too much".

It's AWESOME now... Coconut very willingly runs up to the syringe and WANTS to take it whereas before it was a very unpleasant experience. I'm so happy he is all for it now. I am very proud of Coconut :D

Sadly, I could never get Rascal to do the same because Rascal hates sunflower seeds and he isn't really into being rewarded with any treats (he's a strange bird). For several months I had to give Rascal milk thistle via syringe (for his injured liver from accident due to negligent baby sitter) and I always had to pin him down. It's insane when you think about it... Coconut only had syringe for about 2 weeks and is now taking it like a champ whereas after many months Rascal was still HATED the syringe, go figure. Coconut and Rascal have almost NOTHING in common LOL ;)

Check him out this morning taking his med (MetaCam)... only giving him that powerful toxic drug for one more day, enough is enough. I usually only give him one sunflower seed but today I gave him two :p ... cute how he ran off afterwards, not sure where he was going LOL

I'm going to be giving him the tiniest drop of water several times a week via syringe so he'll always be a pro at it ;)

What they won't do for a treat, even accepting nasty-tasting meds!

Good job Coconut, glad he is about through with his medicine!!

He has fully recovered and is as good as new as if nothing had ever happened. His nose has fully healed back to normal. Here is the shortest video ever just showing the twinkle in his eyes :D

On second thought looks like I don't need to put anything inside the syringe. I just stick the empty syringe in front of his face and when he bites it he gets a treat.... so this will be his practice drill he will do several times a week :) Or maybe I should put very tiny amount of water in it so he knows he is supposed to drink whatever is inside...

Wow, good job Coconut!
Wished giving my Amazon meds was that easy.

I love practicing it... it's become his new favorite "trick" hehe :D

I think it helps that the breeder who weaned Coconut had Coconut drinking from one of those water bottles with a nozzle... so Coconut does have a background of taking things from nozzles that resemble a syringe so that helps I'm sure. Coconut has been drinking from water bowls ever since I got him though... and at first he was not a fan of the syringe when he realized it's not water inside but nasty tasting stuff hehe.
