I drove up to the aviary with my mom yesterday to see my Little One.
Turns out that she is in fact a girl, and is henceforth known as Nephele Eupheme. I've taken to calling her Nilly, which just feels right as a nickname.

She's grown so much and become such a gorgeous little dinosaur. She was perching wonderfully for me, and we got to experience, first-hand, her first flight. She fledged right off of my hand!

She was lagging behind her big brother Willow for a while, but has suddenly caught up and is keeping up with his development! Because of this, the breeders think she'll be ready to come home with me in mid-June, versus earlier estimations of mid-July.
I was a little worried that she was taking so long to develop, and she was SO much smaller than her big brother, but she seems to have caught up in all aspects. Still a little smaller than Willow, but not by much :D
She was so incredibly alert and trying to climb all over everything and everyone.

While I was holding her and admiring her plumage, I noticed that she had a LOT of purple on her tummy! It's much more vibrant in person, but you can kind of see it in these shots.

And finally, showing no fear! She got right up in my face.

I didn't take too many pictures yesterday, because I was mostly focusing on handling her. It was really bizarre, holding a bird of this size. She's also very wiggly and squirmy since she's a baby, so it was quite the experience. She was gently nibbling on my hands and poked at the toys I brought, but she wasn't in the mood to play; just perch, climb and poop all over me (I got pooped on a LOT hahaha).

It seemed like she remembered me, but the aviary also did a great job raising her and she wasn't afraid of my mom at all, even though she's never met her. I got to hear some of Nilly's little noises as well, but she wasn't too vocal. She ate part of an animal cracker, and even took a little piece from my hand. Neither baby is really eating the food they pick up yet. Most of it just gets crushed and falls onto the floor haha
So... Looking at around 5 weeks until she's home :D

I love her so much, and I can't wait to start my life with her :o

Quite the little cutie and coming home mid June is great news!

Thank you! I'm ecstatic about her being able to come home earlier!
But now I have to really hustle to get everything situated before she arrives :52:

Awesome!!! Your post is just bubbling with excitement :) Nilly sounds like a sweetheart!!

Nilly is adorable! Great name for her too:)
That is so exciting that she may get to come home earlier than expected!

Awwww... So much fun! Congrats on th earlier eta!

Beautiful new photos! Your baby is growing so fast. I'm glad you had another fantastic visit with her. Sorry you got pooped on repeatedly. Sounds like Nephele enjoyed the visit too, Lol.

Five weeks must seem like an eternity right now, but so worth it, she is going to be so happy with you.

Golly I just LOVE that face!! She is beautiful! You are soooo lucky to get Nilly! And by the read of your posts, it sounds like you'll make a great parront!! Good Luck to both of you!

She is a doll! They grow and change so fast at this age!

Hey everyone, thank you so much for all of the kind words! I think I may finally set up a YouTube account just for uploading videos of the birds. I know I'll want to capture a lot of Nilly's baby antics and share them with everyone.
I'm calling her Nilly because she's so sweet, like vanilla bean. And I don't like the name Nelly, but felt like I needed a more approachable nickname. I know Nephele is a bit odd and kind of difficult to pronounce if you're not familiar with it.

I'm very weird with my bird names and I fully embrace this.

I'm just really nervous about how to go about introducing her to the flock later. I don't anticipate them being able to hang out together, but I'm hoping they can at least coexist nicely. Genevieve is still quite the firecracker, though she's mellowing out a lot as the weeks go by. A feisty conure and a baby grey probably won't be the best match. I'm sure Phae and Lucy won't have an issue with Nilly at all though.

But if you called her Nelly then every time you introduced her to people you would have the joy of listening them sing "If you wanna go and take a ride wit' me, we three-wheelin' in the fo' with the gold D's. Oh, why do I love this way? Hey, must be the mon-ay!" Now who WOULDN'T want that?! :p

P.S. She's GORGEOUS!!!
