Since I've gotten Yoshi a few weeks ago, I've noticed him doing some weird things. One is he'll lift his leg and spread his wing and tail feathers and fan them all out. I think he is just stretching.

The other thing is, he'll duck down and lean forward like hes about to jump off and start flying. He does this mostly while he's in his cage and I think its because he want to get out.

I'm not too worried about either, but I'm kind of curious if anyone else's conures do that.

They're all normal behaviors. My Kayak does the stretching thing. I think it's funny to watch and I love seeing all her feathers spread out. The ducking down and leaning forward is something my Carlisle does when he wants out. He'll also flutter his wings a bit too when he wants out.

Hey a fellow jersey guy!

My Lucy does these same behaviors. I kinda wish she stretched her wings more. The colors on her feathers are so beautiful

I was always told that when they stretch one leg and wing out to the side it is a greeting. so when you walk in the room and the bird does this it is saying hi. I believe it was the" guide to a well behaved parrot" where i read this

That's interesting, I've never read that before!

Both my birds do this, totally normal.

i am going to have to find this info again. it was either the book i mentioned or a birdtalk magazine article. I was doing alot of reasearch on body language at the time.

I read that somewhere too. Supposedly it's some sort of greeting. Our Boomer does it often usually when perched on our fingers. Try to return the gesture next time yours does it and see how she reacts.

unfortunately I have so many animal books and right now my library looks more like a book storage facility, I cant find exactly which book I got it from.
