Weird lump on lovebird

This is Daggit. He’s just a baby that was born in November. I noticed just today (and he’s out with me daily for many hours every day) this lump on his rump area on his back. I’m concerned about possible preen gland issues but unsure what all the possibilities are for something like this. We’re driving 3 hours tomorrow morning to get to our nearest avian vet but of course I have no patience lol.

He is a hybrid, which I know are more prone to health issues.

Does anyone know what this could be or seen something similar in a lovebird? He does keep scratching backward toward it with his legs. Other than that he’s eating great and has his bright disposition still.

You have the right idea taking him to an avian vet. I have no idea what the problem is, even if there IS a problem. Good luck.

It could have something to do with her preen gland at the base of her tail on her back. That's the only structure there other than skin, feathers, bone and muscle.
