Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
He made it safely home. The travel went smoothly and i was happy and impressed how carefully he was handled by the Pet Safe people. I drove to Newark airport and parked, literally walked right in, got him and walked right out.
He is a little scared of me. I know it's totally normal, as he is not even 3 months old and his whole life is changed, but oh i wish he would come to me. He runs to the back of the cage if i reach in, so i just reached in to give him a treat (which he took). He likes his cage and climbed all around, checking out every toy. He is staying near the back corner, on the floor (i think a little bit in 'hiding') but then every so often comes bopping out and climbs up and checks things out again. He has only been home about an hour and a half so what should i expect from the little guy? :) He has had a rough day!
Anyhow he is SO cute i can't stand it. I wish i could take him out and give him a kiss and play with him.
I took a video when he first went in his cage.

Aww, so cute he wants that bell toy. What type of bird is he? He looks like a love bird. Was getting a bird by plane stressful? I might get my sun conure by air.

He is a blue crown conure. He seemed a little bit stressed but not too bad overall. He had a short flight from Ohio to Newark, so it was just a quick direct flight and i'm a short drive from the airport so he didn't have much more travel by car.
He is actually warming up a bit more already. He came out on this little table top perch i have. I offered it and he stepped on it so i brought it to the table and let him check me out and play with my hair and put him back after a few minutes so he wouldn't be weirded out. He is now all chipper, making happy sounds and playing.

wow I would say for a bird that just went into his cage after a plane flight at three mo old and he is already checking out the toys he is going to be a great companion. he is a beautiful blue headed conure . the kisses will come . I am surprised he isn't just hiding in the corner. welcome home Gilbert Oliver:D

He is adorable:) He will soon settle in.. He loves that new toy by the looks of it:)

oh my goodness he tried to fly out of his cage but his wings are clipped, so i picked him up and he is snuggling with me!!! :) i've had him 2 hours and he is THAT curious. what a good bird.

He is wonderful and is not the only one whom has had his life changed. Your's is about to become much happier and parrot filled. :)

/edit: Oh, and the name suits him perfectly.

Ok, i couldn't resist posting another. I love him already!!

Ruffledfeathers, where did you get him? A breeder? would you recommend them and if so would you post heir info please. I've been looking into Blue Crown Conures and have been looking for a reputable place to get one. Thanks!

What a great looking little guy. Congratulations. My Peanut did the same thing at first after traveling on a plane, but got over it pretty quick. I really enjoyed the videos too.

I did like dealing with them very much, but i think he was the only blue crown baby they had in 2 years. He is from In a Pickle Aviary in Ohio. I actually went on birdbreeder.com and contacted a few people who said they had blue crown babies. This little guy was available and I saw that breeder had high satisfaction ratings from other customers.

Oh, wow! Congratulations! He's absolutely gorgeous and he seems like a very confident little guy. Can't wait to hear more stories!

He's adorable ! I went to pick up my baby at the Nwk airport too :P
His flight was also pretty short from NC but I think it shook him a lot more /:
he's a shy baby it took me like a month for him to get used to me or even touch his toys. You've got a real easy boy here it looks. First thing he did was fiddle with his toys & he's already stepped up for you ?!? He's gonna be awesome :D enjoy him!!

Gilvert Oliver is precious. He looks like he's in awe and a state of wonderment, like a little kid in a toy store. He looks very at ease. You guys will have great fun and lots of cuddling ahead.

He seemed a little scared of me again this morning, backing up if i reached toward him, but not freaked out or anything, just avoiding my hand. I played that Pet Music cd again and i swear that is amazing how much it soothes him and brings him out of his shell. I left him a variety of foods and i put classical music on for while i'm at work today. I'll have a 3 day weekend with him after today so hopefully he will feel at ease soon.

Yay! Congrats he's so cute. I know how long you've been waiting for him to come home. Cant wait to see more videos!!

Congratulations! He is beautiful. He seems like a very happy little guy. Wishing you a wonderful life together.

Laura

Congratulations! I've only had my bcc a few weeks and already love her to death. I think with a little time little Gilbert will realize how much you love him and will eventually will be a velcro baby.
