what are the hardest natural wood perches?

what cage even supports a perch that heavy??? wow!

Haha maybe one of my stainless steels will, if not I may have to chain it up Alittle. On the end there is a loop that two branches grew together so I could technically chain it up if needed. I have a few stainless steel cages and I hope that they support it...

we have a 12" multibranch java perch in the tiels' cage, it's a heavier perch, but surprisingly lightweight or its size.

but it's only 2" top in diameter. NOT 1'! i'd love to see a photo of a perch that big!

I got a picture I'll upload it within the next day or so, maybe yet tonight! Look forward to seeing the Goliath lol it must weigh 15pounds.

This may not help much dr fosters & smiths sells dragon wood perches of different sizes (for small to big birds). They ship to Canada but I know shipping can add up.

My birds will not chew on Java perches. I even got them some toys of it and they don't touch it. I might give them to chain saw teddy my moms blue fronted.

here is goliath the 15 pound perch lol.

is it held up by TWO hardware pieces?? wow! it is huge! good luck hanging that one lol

yea it has two hangers, but i have another java that has two hangers as well and that one is waaay smaller then this one. so yea ill need the luck lol.

i'd love to see the tree it came from!

it's for a peach faced lovebird, ideally looking for a perch 1/2"-1" in diameter (no wider than 1") and 6"-18" long. her cage is 18" deep, so i would not mind a perch going the whole depth of it. her cage is roughly 48" long. but no branches in store are likely going to be that long :P i so wish though, that would be amazing!!

for now she's nesting so perches aren't used at the moment, but once she gives up on these eggs, we are redoing her whole cage and i will be introducing the new perch then.

as for bird safe branches we can get here....

sycamore (i might try again, she has been able to debark it. i might debark a piece first and try it, i have a few perches kicking around i just have to get the hardware)

willow (too soft, she would eat it for breakfast)

birch (too soft)

silver maple (she splinters and debarks it)

cottonwood (too soft)

grapevine (dont have access to a sandblaster or wide enough branches! so, thin vines are too small and the bark spells "instant nest" lol)

the above trees are tress i use frequently in my flock.

Norway maple (the bark gets chewed off, possibly could debark it if i get a thick enough branch)

other trees that do grow in my area that are safe (but don't have easy access to or able to ID easily):

aspen (her ledge in her cage is aspen, she chews it, so we covered it in fleece)
pine
spruce
mulberry
lilac

I'll send you a Dragoon Wood perch, you pay the shipping ,i'll send you one what ever length you want. 48" long X 3/4" dia would weigh about 2 lbs in a cardboard tube, shipped from area code 34221 ( i'd guess 20-25$) Perches are cheap it's the shipping that hurts. Most of my customers are breeders who have lots of cages the same size and it's cheaper to send a box full. I sent some one a 48" macaw perch last week , 20$ , if i had shipped 2 of them it would only be 4$ more??

thank you hen pecked, the offer is very generous, but i can get some manzanita and java from the petstore here in my city for cheaper than the shipping price. i honestly appreciate the very kind offer, i just dont want to spend so much and have my husband kill me at spending so much when we can get java or manzanita for about $6-10 here locally.

i found an old manzanita perch while cleaning out the toy bin under mango's cage, i had forgot we had it. so i made it into a swing for her with some coconuts, and i made a new willow perch to switch out for one of Mango's sycamore perches for her since she only managed to get bark off before, it may be worth a shot for now :)

photos:

manzanita DIY swing below top and the Mango's sycamore perch bottom

and we put the swing in for now (saving the perch for when we redo her cage after she gives up on her eggs)
