Yellowsided Green Cheek Conure~ Baby/Blue Front Amazon~ Cookie/Timneh African Grey~ Dezi/Normal Green Cheek Conure~Petri
My new Amazon will crouch down and spread his wings out a little bit. It looks a lot like a male cockatiel mating dance. He makes his wings into a sort of heart shape and just crouches down. What does this mean ?

Are his eyes pinning (pupils getting bigger/smaller rapidly)? Any hisses or noises? Pacing? Tail flared out?

To me, it sounds like an aggressive display. Remember, this little guy is still very new and it is mating season. This kind of behavior should be ignored (as not to encourage it), and I wouldn't approach an amazon doing that unless I wanted to get bit either.

There is no hissing noises or pacing or tail flaring but I didn't pay attention to the pupils so I don't know about that.

Mine Grey does something very similar in his "I am about to take off, but I'm not quite sure" stance. Lol

I was sortof thinking that as well

I guess I didn't think of that, but wanting to fly makes sense if he's flighted or knows how to fly. My bird has never taken flight and refuses to try so he never has a "take off" stance lol:p When he crouches down, it's usually a display of aggression. Do watch out for the pinning, tail flaring and hissing though!

He did it again and he didn't do anything accept the position, no hissing no pacing no eye pinning to tail fanning just the position. I don't know what he is doing.

I had a CAG that did this as a baby and continued into an adult. If he was in or on his cage and did that stance, I would ask 'want to fly?' and I would have him step up onto me and I would gently move my arm up and down and he would grasp my hand but flap his wings like crazy. He knew how to fly, and flew all over the house, but as a youngster it was his 'practice' flying and he loved to 'fly' with me all through his years. lol He as also in love with me and would crouch down, spread wings, flash eyes, regurgitate for me...fun times! Perhaps its something similar to what your Amazon is doing?

Sounds like he wants to go somewhere- have you asked him to step up when he does it?

Does he also duck his head? As long as there is no tail flaring, eye pinning, hissing, etc, it sounds like what my Pionus, Mel, does when she is asking for attention. Usually she simply has noticed that I am about to leave the room, and wants me to take her with me. If I fail to do so, she generally will fly wildly around the house until I call to her or she finds me on her own. She never runs into anything though, she is a pretty good flier. She will also do this if I am eating something and she doesnt think she can get to me. She wants my food.

My DYH zon does this when she is excited, usually when she is singing. She get's into this singing mood, does exact the same thing with her wings, her head lowered, her tail flared....she walks like that usually on top of her cage and sings her head off occasionally raising her head up high when she wants to make a very high and long emotional sound..... :).
But at the same time many times she sings without doing this crazy dance. So I was wondering myself.
One day I'll try to capture this and post it.
