Hey guys, I have found a new friend. My neighbors parrot has started visitng me and my ringneck. Hes quite cute and loves apples, but I have no idea what he is. The closest I could find personally was the ā€˜Maroon Tail Parrot’ but he doesn’t have the red tail. Here is some pictures.

Yea that's a black capped like my perry! He has red tipped wings on his sides right? He's in the same family as green cheek conures.

Black capped Conure. Yes he does have Red tipped wings. He’s so cute and friendly, Hes been back and forth all day and he practically falls asleep on my lap while I’m scratching him. Haha, Too bad my Indian Ringneck isn’t as friendly, he’s a rescue though.

Anyways, thanks you two, I appreciate the help

:DThey are sweethearts! If need be, I will come pick him up !

Haha, I know what you mean, I’d love to have this bird as a new family member but ofcourse I’ve been talking to my neighbors and he just likes to wander it seems. I guess the noises my Ringneck makes must have lured him

So he wanders over to your house from your neighbors? Does he fly? How long till his owner comes looking for him?

Yeah he wanders over, he doesn’t fly he walks, his wings are clipped it seems.

I live in a unit complex so our houses are only seperated by a small fence he just walks under it.

They don’t seem overly worried, they haven’t come looking for him, he wandered over and I told them he was here. So hes been back and forth yesterday afternoon and today. It’s only just started.

They are vietnamese so our conversations are limited but I believe he’s a relatively new pet of theirs.

he's so cute!

Yeah agreed, he is so cute, he likes to chew though, he nearly took a chunk out of my palm, but thats alright i distracted him with awesome scritches

Yea mine doesn't bite me, but he likes to play this game with my gf where he chases her hand around and tries to bite. I think he really thinks of it as a game cause he doesn't bite her hard but sometimes when hes on my shoulder he will bite right through my shirt. He loves to really chomp on fabric or rope he gives it his all. I'm thankful he doesn't take his anger out on me lol.

Really? That’s pretty funny, they’re quite clever birds, aren’t they. Ropes a good idea, I’m not sure what kind of set up the neighbors have for him, maybe I’ll find him one of Echos ropes to chew.

He’s not malicious, he just starts to nibble but gets into it after a while. Lucky I’ve had experience with bigger beaks. I don’t think I’ll let Echo see me share his toys, I mean, Echo is flighted and he has access to the whole house, in the house he is fine, but he’s really terriortorial with his cage and toys, infact even though he seems to like my missus more than me, she can’t put her hand in the cage. Only me. I don’t want to upset him

Your neighbors just let their parrot wander around? That’s wild.

Well yeah, it’s not something I’d personally do, but they aren’t me. And actually I’ve been enjoying his visits to be honest.

He sure is a cutie. Kinda of bummed out that the owners are so cavalier because he is not very big and can get hurt by predators.

:confused:Hmm...hope they understand that his wings don't "stay" clipped (new flight-feathers do eventually grow in)....and that his wanderings could get the little guy injured (or lost). Sounds like the language barrier might prevent you properly communicating that though.

I've been to Vietnam four times, and know only the rudimentary stuff, but this rough translation sounds right to my ear, if you want to wing (ha..ha) telling them:

Chim trong lồng khi bįŗ”n khĆ“ng ở nhĆ

Id certainly talk to the neighbours and try explain the dangers of this and as stated above about his wings growing back in and him going away with the wind. Option 3 would be keep him lol but I didn't tell you that hehe :)

It would be cool having a little Parrot come over to play though but you've told us now lol and we cant help but see the dangers and care because we all love Parrots so much :) x

I'm terrified about what could happen to the little darling as he navigates that outdoor area. Raptors, cats, dogs, oh, my!

Thank you for trying to save him!!!!!

No kidding, anything can happen to him! Humans can such morons at times. It amazes me that we got to the top of the food chain.

It’s good to see so many people caring about him. I do worry, I’m in Australia and we do have quite a few snakes so I tried my best to explain that to them. I haven’t seen him for a few days but I have heard him.

I’m not sure if it’s because of what I have said, but whatever the case he’s at least inside now.

There’s not a whole lot I can do since he is not my bird, but they are friendly and good natured neighbors and as I said he hasn’t been out for a while, hopefully that means we can trust the bird will be ok.
