What type of parrot is best for me?

I already have a cockatiel that I have had for about 6 years. He can say his name, whistle tunes, and make a chattering noise. I want to get another bird, preferably a parrot. I need one that is easy to train and isn't aggressive. I realize that all birds are different and the one I get may never learn to talk or may be really aggressive. But from the overall breeds I want to know which one I should get. I want a breed that can learn to talk really well and maybe do tricks and that likes to be handled. Size doesn't matter. Thanks!

May I suggest something around the Conure family, they have been known to be considerably enjoyavle species but having one that may be easy to train may be just outta luck. Congo african greys are great i will suggest that species above all. If price is not an issue, because they can cost 600-1,000! Conures would be a good playdate buddy I am actually hoping to purchase a tiel tommorrow as chum. For Conures I would suggest a baby handfed Jenday Conure they go around $199 either that or Sun or Weddells. Hope this helps!
Note- I mentioned Congos because they love to be handled and are above all the beast at mimicing sounds and voices.

also if size is not an issue and you are ready for a challenge, a macaw! they are good talkers and can be easily trained to do tricks and are very cuddly.
like autumn said, african greys are the best talkers, amazons are also great talkers.

The amount of time you have to give to the parrot will also be something to consider. Some need a lot more attention than others, although they all need time each day of quality interaction.

No bird is easy to train, he might catch on quickly but it still takes time.
As for the aggressiveness, each bird for themselves. If the bird you get is aggressive, and one does not know when becoming a guardian, it is something that would have to be "worked" on, on a daily basis.

Species does not matter, as HRH Di mentioned, some birds require more time than others, whether teaching them to talk or to do tricks.

If you are looking for a good talker I would look into an african grey first then amazons or macaws. Conures are LOUD and really don't talk all that well. They scream much better. Meyer's parrots can be great little talkers. Also ringnecks. Good luck

I would suggest a conure, they are a bit bigger than a cockatiel. But, if you want something a little bigger, go with a Hahn's macaw. They are the smallest in the macaw family and considered a mini macaw...They are easily trainable, not aggressive, and they talk up a storm!!!! They aren't the best talkers, but they learn so many words. they are about 12 inches and go froom $550 to $800 US.

I would suggest a Queen of Bovaria conure, but they are loud, and can go up to as much as $3000 dollars!!!!!

Unless your buying a Macaw or medium to large size bird from a breeder that is still quite young and has been hand fed and very socialized by the breeder, I would be leary of them. Medium to large sized birds can be very intimidating and will try you at some point and probably quite often to see how much they can get away with.

Since you have Cockatiel experience, I would suggest something along the lines of a Meyers, Senegal, Quaker or Conure. They are usually found for under $300.00. Now, if you don't plan to have a flock of birds in the future, then I would suggest getting the bird you really want. Cockatiels can live to be 10-15 years, Conures, Meyers & Senegals 20-30 years. Macaws, Cockatoos, Greys and Amazons can live to be 50-80 years.

Cockatoos are NOISY dusty birds, Greys are dusty, but not as noisy, Amazons are middle of the road for noise, not as dusty, but they also can be very moody when they start maturing within the first 5 years or so they get hormonal, some Amazon species are worse than others. Macaws are sweet and can be cuddly birds such as Cockatoos, but they can also be noisy and quite intimidating if you aren't confident in handling them. All of these birds make great talkers and all are quite trainable. All of thesed particular birds range from $800.00-$10.000.00 pepending on the bird.
