Does anyone know what type/species of parrot this is? He/she has been listed on that site we don't want to name for months now, and that empty food bowl bothers me a lot.

Mexican Red Headed Amazon (aka Green Cheeked Amazon). That looks pretty sad :(

Yes it looks like a Mexican Red Head like my Buddy. Poor baby.

It looks to be a older green cheek amazon and by the look of that beak, may have been on a seed diet. Looks to need a good bath too! Doesn't look underweight to me though. Are you sure that's not just an unused dish? A lot of cages come with 3 dishes and not everyone uses all of them. Our birds cage has 3 dishes, but only 2 get used (and my bird is fed better than some people!). Anyways, are you thinking of adopting him/her? They are known to be very sweet amazons!

Thank you for the replies. I tried to identify the species by looking at photographs and I am surprised I was right, thanks for confirming that she's a Mexican red-headed Amazon. I know nothing about this particular type of Amazon, though I've had an Amazon before.

How can you tell she might have been fed seeds by looking at her beak Kiwi? I'd like to learn what you know!

I have seen this bird listed for months now and wonder why nobody has adopted/bought her yet. I thought one of our members was interested in her (because she mentioned the site and the bird, and lives in the same state I live), but apparently it didn't work out, or she was talking about another bird!

It's just one of those things... you know? I can't stop thinking about this bird although I just adopted Sweat Pea and have my hands full with her QMS and Clover's bipolar T-Rex syndrome, my dogs, and my JOB. What am I thinking????

Maybe I need a therapist!

Or maybe you just need a little green bird witha red head...lol:32:

You could go look at it and just see what's what. Then at least you could get it out of your mind...and possibly in your home forever:09:

Is there water in that dish or am I seeing things?

Edit
****talking to my tablet*** Wait! I'm not finished!!!!

I agree with the others, you should go check things out. I can confirm they are sweet, little pigs, love head scratches, to make sounds with you and be in the middle of almost everything. In the pic it looks like the MRA is fluffed like after bathing, or to stay warm. Go check it out and see how you feel after. Keep us posted too.

It's just a guess of course as I'm looking at a photo of a bird at an odd angle:), but the beak looks a bit overgrown and on the 'blocky' side to me. It's a subtle difference that can happen in older zons who eat seed based diets. It has to do with their livers. The scruffy condition of those feathers are also of concern. It doesn't appear he's over preening or anything like that, but he doesn't look to be getting baths or eating real healthy. A healthy, clean GCA has shiny, almost iridescent green feathers. I think that bird needs some fruits and veggies!

This is the kind of bird (if I had the ability to do so) I would be interested in. Poor baby needs a new home and no one wants him:( I'm not sure about your personal situation, but if you're able and you really can't get this sweetheart out of your mind, perhaps you need to look more into him. Really, the smaller zons can be the best birds you could ever own:)

It's gone.. the ad is gone. I'm sad. I'm glad. I'm hopeful. Hopeful that someone gave it a good home.

Looks like a water dish to me too... and a mexican redhead.

A medium sized one
