A lot of people join a parrot forum to learn how to take care of their bird (newly acquired, going to get, just thrust upon them.......). I just want to point out that first and formost, you need to learn that a bird is NOT like other pets. Birds are smarter. I love dogs and cats and just about anyting else you can think of(I have dogs, cats, bug, turtles, reptiles, and too many others to name here).
The first and best thing you can do for a bird is: love it, understand how it feels in new surroundings, and spend time with it!
Diet, exercise, trainging, is important, however just spending time with your parrot is key to a good relationship. Not 100% perfect, it does work a lot.......
