Apollo the sun conure. Hatched in mid-January.
Picking up a fairly young Sun Conure later this week. I know I will eventually want two of them. The cage is big enough. Just wondering if I should get one now, and one in a few months, or both now? I ran into a guy who has 2 that are about 3 years old, and he's had them together for their whole weaned life. Trouble is, he wants $1000 and won't budge. The only way to get two for less than that is to buy them from different people. Troubles with that are they may not even be close in age, and they won't know each other. If I get two that don't know each other, or that are very different in age, will they fight and harm each other?

They very well could fight, yes. I don't think you should ever count up front on being able to house two birds together in the same cage (unless they are a proven breeding pair - and even then, it's possible you might someday have to separate them). You don't like every person you've ever met, after all, so why should your bird be any different? If you want a second sun conure, plan on getting a second cage as well.

Thanks. You may have just saved me a bunch of heartache.

You're welcome. I wouldn't rush into getting your second bird, either. Give yourself some time to get to know your first sun conure and form a good bond with him before bringing a second bird into the house. You'll want to spend a lot of quality one-on-one time with a new bird in order to get it's training off to a good start, and with two new birds finding enough time to spend with each might be tough. (this depends on your personal situation, though. It's easier if you're home a lot, or can take the birds with you to work. It's tougher if you work away from home.)

How big is the cage you want to house both of them in?
