So I know nothing about raising a baby parrot but I thought I had read that you put the syringe in the birds left side aiming it down the throat to the right.

If this is correct I've noticed a lot of Youtube videos feeding from the right side and risking aspiration?

Here's an example of what I think is incorrectly feeding Hawkheads...they are so friggin cute!

I agree Bill that looks wrong to me!
I also didn't see a thermometer for the formula!

I thought I wanted a hawkhead but after seeing those I KNOW I want a hawkhead! :D

haven't watched the video so can't see if there's any indicators but the video could have been mirrored. It's surprisingly common for videos to get mirrored before uploading onto YouTube, don't really know why though.

edit: watched the video and still can't entirely tell. Closest I got was the brief glimpse of his shirt which looked like it had a normal D but the rest of it looked like possible letters I'm not familiar with, similar to the newspaper.

are you thinking about getting a baby Hawk head?

Only in my dreams unfortunately.

My family is already about ready to kill me over rescuing Anakin. I think the only reason they haven't yet is because if they kill me they don't get the insurance. They will figure something out, probably with the help of my best friends.:(

With the immediate family and close friends I have, who needs enemies.

I think it goes in from left side and aimed to the right. That's how I found this forum. When I bought my bird the breeder gave me instructions on how to feed her. I knew I had the temperature and consistency right, I even tasted it just in case my thermometer was wrong, but when I went to feed her I couldn't remember if it was left to right or right to left. That's when I realized I have no business feeding a baby bird. I googled it and it lead me here.

Here's part 2, just a nice closeup of one of the babies

Those little ones are utterly adorable

- though I do not care for the way they are pumped full of food (and yes- if the video is the right way around ... weird choice)

LOL @ TOM, they are probabely waiting for Anakin to do the honours ;)

They really have formula smeared everywhere! (second vid)

Yes, you always insert the syringe in the left side of the bird's mouth (the bird's left side, your right side if you're facing the bird), then aim the syringe OVER the tongue and towards the right side of the back of the bird's throat (your left side if the bird is facing you), as the crop entrance is located on the back of the right side of the bird's throat.

When done the opposite way, or under the tongue, the baby bird will literally suck/inhale the formula right down into it's lungs while doing it's feeding-response.

People in-general should not be even attempting this, as if the baby is small enough and they aspirate formula into their lungs, they will literally drop over dead in a matter of a few seconds, they literally drown.
