I just got bit wow what happened. I went up to her cage and she lunged at me and bit me whats up with this? At what age will she get moody and want to mate? What should I do when this happens? Why did she go after me like that

maybe becoming cage territorial? Other than that I dont have a clue:confused:

I can't remember all the details about Beemer, but nothing unusual about getting bit by an amazon you haven't had very long. You have to respect that first lunge and realize when they say NO. Is she a rehome and not a bird you got as a baby? I'm sorry but you'll have to give me some history, i'm a member of several forums and have a short memory.(old age)

Henpecked this is her second home she was raised by a lady that raised many birds for many people in Florida she is in her 60 now and wanted to give Beemer the right home. So now Beemer is mine she is actin so funny I had a old YNA he would clunck around the house doin what he wanted heck he even chased the cats around. Now this girlie entire dif story she gets all wound up over nothing she screams she fans out her feathers and will do this puffing thing throught her nose like a bull gettin ready to charge hates to get out of her cage I can rub her neck with th door open and sh eis on her pearch but not a big fan of gettin out... Talk oh my what dont she say she barks like a dog meows like a cat has this monster voice she can do but the first time she did it I went for my hand gun thinking somone had broke in my house.. she is real high strung she moves fast gets worked up easy loves me or hates me is all of this normal I was told the females make the4 better pets is that true???

How long have you had Beemer, and how old is she? Is she adolescent?

Beemer is 6 ... I got her in August

If you haven't had her long, she could just need more space still. She's still getting used to her environment. Just respect her personal space, and learn her body language (might take getting bitten a few times, it sure did with me). She should warm up to you.

Puck was very bitey with me at first. He drew blood every couple of days or so, partially because he was more aggressive with me, and partiallly because I wanted to play with him when he didn't want to play. WELL he showed me! LOL. Now he's a lot more comfortable with me, and lets me bother him more without getting as mad. He still does though, although he hasn't broken skin in a while now.

He noticeably improved after I took him to the vet, where she groomed him and drew blood. He did NOT like that, and bit the vet too! He's been a LOT nicer to me since then!

I'm not sure what age Amazons become adolescent, but that could have something to do with it too. I think it does it Puck's case. He's like a teenage boy. He's moody and tries to mate with me all the time and doesn't care if I say no! LOL
