My CAG Lulu started to beg for food yesterday and today. Why?? She is 5 months old and eat by herself. It started when I began to train her and give her treats. Is it treats she is begging for? I actually don't think it is..? Can anyone help here?
She is always out of her cage when I'm home, but I put her back every 2 hours so she can eat :)

I wouldnt worrry to much, all that has happened is that your parrot has learnt that you have some tasty food to give and she wants in on the action! I would stop this behaviour as personally i hate ANY animal that begs, so would teach yur bird 'no' or put away when you eat :)

Yup, you're probably right. I shouldn't worry to much, because she is eating, and she is very healthy :) Btw. she said her first word today :D

What was her first word? :) I bet you're ecstatic!

Her first word was "hello" - surprise surprise - but in Danish :D

I bumped this up in hope that someone familar w/weaning baby birds might have some insight on this. I think its important that they are weaned properly.

She said her baby is 5 months old and weaned. Makes me wonder if the owner or the breeder weaned the baby. If the breeder did, I would agree the bird has figured out the owner gives treats and is asking for those. If the baby was sold before fully weaned maybe the weaning wasn't done properly.

The breeder weaned the baby :D

I'm not a "she" but "he" :D

lol she might be using the action for attention, i would ignore it, but like you said if you was training and she did the begging she might think it was the beggin motion she was bein rewarded for lol

i'd put bowls outside of her cage so she can eat/drink when she wants

I have never rewarded her for that behaviour. I always ignore her when she does it :)

What do you all use as a treat to your parrot/s? I've trouble finding one that she really like, and I have tried nearly everything!
