I have a new GCC and hes only about 4 months old. I think he screwed up a landing and he has been limping around, his ankle is swollen. Is this cause for concern? it happened so easily, something tells me this stuff happens all the time in the wild. Should I bother with a vet, or wait it out? it's been 4 days and he still rarely if ever, pets weight on it:green2:.

If it doesn't seem to be getting better, I would see a vet. You never know! And these little guys seem so fragile...just make sure you go to an avian vet so your birdie gets handled properly, there's been a couple horror stories about horrible vets lately!

I agree if after 4 days its not getting better take to an avian vet birds do have such fragile legs.

Please do have a visit to the avian vet. He might be hurt more then you realize. I used to have to wrap all 3 geese I used to have, their ankles would sswell and I used to get this cream from the feed store that I use to apply on their ankles before wrapping them. It took awhile for them to heal but they did really good. It's been so long ago that I don't remember what cream that was.

I had a Quaker startle and land wrong the first week I had her. She refused to put weight on it. Her leg was broken right outside the hip socket. I couldn't see anything other than she wouldn't use the leg. She acted Completely 100% normal. Please take your little one to the vet.

Swelling, not using the leg, amount of time since injury, all indicate a larger injury of some kind. Fracture, break, dislocation.....it's time for the vet.

Yes, these things happen in the wild, but most would also die in the wild. Survival of the fittest, infection, deformities .....

Please let us know how he is doing. What is his name?

The only tie i have is this wendsday to take hi to the vet, so it wil lhave to be then, I wil lhave to look for one . anyone know a decent one in the toronto area? his nameis nibbler

Do you have any family or friends that might be able to help you? If it's been 4-5 days already and then you need to wait another 5 days? Going 10 days with an untreated injury is not good. My heart hurts for your friend Nibbler. Good luck.....
