Sadly, this represents not a single event, but the tip of a series of refuges that will be facing the same as their elder owners pass. There are over 130 known large refuges across North America with elder owners. And this does not include the Avian wildlife refuges.

It is truly heartbreaking!

Really sad; the birds are innocent victims of a bad situation.

If I ever win a lottery, my fantasy is to create a huge sanctuary and house hundreds if not a thousand or more unwanted parrots.

Terry and I have been following this particular horror story for more than two years, since one of our members first posted the story. Unimaginable cruelty and neglect has ran rampant in that place for years, not entirely due to the owner's passing. I am so relieved to know that finally these birds will have a chance to escape the horrors of that awful place and get the veterinary care and individual attention they so desperately need.

Scott, that's a beautiful idea, I hope you do win the lottery and fulfill your dream, I'll be happy to volunteer at your sanctuary.

Scott, you would completely be a natural at running a sanctuary, and those would be some birds who also felt like they hit the lottery.
The thread Allee is talking about gave me nightmares for a long time.

I spoke with someone yesterday who is working on a list of people who could take in some of these poor birds and asked about the blind Amazon from that thread. No word yet, but I truly hope he is still alive. I hope all these birds are able to find homes where they can be treated with the dignity they deserve.
