Phoebe, my almost 7 month old Sun Conure, had a small injury on right wing a few months ago. She healed from it and we moved on.

Fast forward to today, I was wondering how her wing was doing so I checked her wing.

I’ve trained her to tolerate laying in my hand as I gently spread one with at a time.

When I checked her left wing, she didn’t even react. But when I tried opening her right wing, she screamed and bit at me (gently actually as it didn’t hurt).

I’m worried that she has pain in her right wing and that there’s still an injury or something going on.

It’s been months since the injury and I checked her constantly to make sure she was doing okay. I talked to vets, showed them visuals of her injury at the time. The consensus was that she’d heal fine from it and she didn’t need seen.

Nowadays though, she’s showing zero signs of injury, she’s vocal, eats plenty, and climbs around all the time.

The only thing that alarms me is how she screamed and bit me when I tried to check her. Everything else tells me she’s okay, but I’m so worried about the possibility that there could be something going on.

I’m just extremely worried. I lost my GCC before I got Phoebe, so any uncertainty has me scared to death.

I don't blame you for being scared. I went through a similar. An avian vet is best. Does she have out of cage time for wing exercises? If she doesn't use it because of the injury the muscles may have shrunk. So you moving it will definitely cause pain. The muscles are tight and hurts to stretch. True for people too!. Encourage wing exercises. Unfortunately I only know one. I place my CAG on my partial closed hand and hold her feet with my thumb. I gently raise and lower her. I give lots of praise. I have to do it because my CAG will walk down a hallway rather than fly.

Yeah she gets plenty of out of cage time where she loves climbing around her play stand, she does stretch both her wings as normal sometimes too. It helps to understand why it might hurt, I’ll see if I can help her do some stretches or exercises! Thank you!
