And really?!? Less flatulent cows got funding as a project?!? I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when they were making THAT pitch!

Being large herbivores, cows produce more methane in their flatulence than most other animals. Under normal conditions, this would not be a problem, however due to factory farming (which causes a severe overpopulation of cows on the planet) they are actually right up there with cars and heavy industry as contributors of greenhouse gasses. Overpopulations of cows for human consumption are really causing problems, and instead of simply eating less meat, people would rather genetically engineered frankencows.

But lets not mention the REAL culprits here like Volcanoes and swamps, which produce WAY more methane than all the animals and humans put together because these occur naturally. I eat all the meat I can get. I prefer chicken, turkey and sea food. But I do love a nice thick steak every now and then.

I don't push being a vegetarian it is a personal choice, my husband still eats meat. I do encourage people to eat WAY less meat! It is so much better for you and the planet to eat less meat. It would have a huge impact if people cut their meat consumption even by half.

Agreed. I've been a vegetarian for over 15 years, but I usually keep that fact to myself. I don't think a meat free diet is necessarily the right thing for everyone, but I do think people should be more informed on what exactly they are eating and how it affects the animals, people and our planet. After all, you can't make wise choices if you don't know all the facts. My husband still eats meat too, though after he set out to prove my viewpoints wrong (when we were first dating and he thought me being a vegetarian was funny), he found out some of the stuff I was citing as reasons for my choice were in fact true. He has since cut back on the amount/frequency he eats meat and only eats organic, free-range meats now:)

But lets stay away from this *HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL* topic and get back to the OTHER highly controversial topic- cross breeding these birds:52:

I disagree, we are setup by nature to eat meat. Our bodies need protein in order to function properly. This is why vegetarians require supplements to their diets in order to function properly. Now have we evolved to where we can survive on less protein? I'm sure that is possible.

This thread has run its course, folks.

The OP hasn't been back since posting, and I personally believe he/she is a troll.
