To care for and tame. Will it get along with Ace my parakeet. I'm thinking about it. There's one on cl that is getting ignored by parents. They want 60 for it. I'm sure at that price it will go fast. It may be gone by the time I make up my mind

I love my cockatiel, she's the easiest bird I have to take care of. She's not a picky eater, she plays with her toys, she's affectionate, she was really easy to train. She likes baths. She hangs out with my budgies and they get along fine. Gee, I sound prejudiced, but that's my opinion.

That was supposed to be mbs. And it was meant nicely.

Tiels are great birds and with patience and bribes I have no doubt you could make a new friend.

I have felt the onset of MBS several times in the last month. So far I have shaken it off with few side affects. Not sure how long I can stay immune to it though

I used to raise budgies and cockatiels they all got along with the exception of one female budgie and one male cockatiel. I think we need a MBS support group here! I can feel mine flare up every few days. I think my flock is full but then I start thinking my granddaughters need a budgie or cockatiel... Good thing my MBS was not full force yesterday...my daughter's boyfriend tried to give me his mom's 2 parrots. I said "no" but I keep looking at their pics..lol.:30: NEED>>>>TO>>>>STAY>>>>STRONG>>>>>...:32:

Am I like the only one on here who is immune to MBS? One is more than enough trouble for me (said in the most loving way, you all know how much I adore Kiwi):D:D:D

April - your day is coming. You just haven't found the right bird yet...or the right bird hasn't found you yet. :D

Oh, theres been a few I would have so loved to bring home, but then the memories of when Kiwi was new to us come flooding back and it seems not so appealing anymore lol:eek:

LOL maybe thats what I need to start doing. If I get another it will be a rehome.

I'm in the club too. But school and lack of experience keep me away. :)

I'm all for rehomes/rescues.

April, you must have been the only one who was vaccinated against it. Lol, I don't think anything is wrong with not being infected :). As I said on another post, for me personally, I have a problem with multiples of things I like period. No just birds. ANY type of animal I'd find it hard to have just one. Even inanimate objects, if I really love it, I must go back and get another in a different color lol.

Fighting off MBS is super hard. I have to stop myself from checking CR every couple hours..

And to help answer your question, Cockatiels are generally easy to care for, however unless the bird is already tame it'll take time and LOTS of patience.
I say go for it!

I don't think it would be fair to Ace to get another pet so soon. I think it will be better to fully tame him first. And if I'm being honest I really can't afford another bird right now.

It's good that you recognize that Grace! And there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. :) I have one bird too and am perfectly happy with that for right now.

Cockatiels are easy enough to care for, compared to other birds. IThere are some exceptions, though. Kilo is a downright rude and grumpy old man. I rescued him 2 years ago from bad conditions, and to this day, I still can't pet him or make him step up on my hand. Nonetheless, we have a pretty good bond, and he loves attention. I sure do find them stubborn, though. XD
