Ricco - Goffin's Cockatoo
After talking with you guys, as well as some people on AA, and the owner of the bird store I frequent, I think I have actually decided......... They are getting an 8 week old Yellow-Shouldered Amazon in this Friday. He or she will be weaned in approximately one and a half to two months. I went home last night/today and did some research on YSAs, and found them to be exactly what I am looking for. The playfulness of a 'zon, they are described as being as cuddly as Cockatoos, and they are supposedly the quietest of all of the 'zon species. The baby will also be weaned (if all goes as planned) on my birthday! I am going to see him/her this Friday and if I fall in love (who wouldn't?) I will be putting a deposit down!

I am very excited that I found this bird. I truly feel that this is the best match for what I am looking for. I will be sure to keep you all updated! :D

(P.S. If it doesn't work out, for whatever reason.... Well, then, I will continue on my search, because it just wasn't meant to be... But so far, the fact that it will be weaned right around my birthday and the fact that I have read/heard so much good about them.... I'm hoping this is the one. :) )

That's awesome congrats, I hope it all works out for you!!!

Thank you!! :) Me too! My fiance is very excited too.. Hehe

YSA are great birds, just not very popular. Will you have the chance to pick from more than one baby?

I do not believe so, henpecked. :( We will have to see once I get there on Friday. :)

Well, i'm hoping everything works out. I love to live vicariously thru the members, when they get a baby zon. Don't forget to carry the camera.!!
PS my friends call me capt.

Oh, don't worry! I will take pictures even if I decide against getting him/her! He/she will be DNA sexed, so I should know whether it is male or female soon-ish. :)

Congrats! Sounds perfect! Hope it all works out. Keep us posted!

Thank you! I hope so too, and I certainly will! :)

Only 6 more days! :D

I wish I could go on Friday, which is when they will be getting it... But my brother's graduation is that day. :( Do you think I should call and put a small deposit down just to hold it until I can get there on Saturday? I'm scared someone will snatch it up before I can get there to see it... :/

Or should I just wait, and if someone does put a deposit down, it wasn't meant to be? :/

Sassy is my Yellow Shouldered Amazon whom is 6 years old. Got her at the age of 6 months. She is rare to the United States and Apendix 2 on Cites listing. Have to see your Amazon parrot, since we both have one..

They are quite nosey, meaning they will want in food what you are eating.. lol They like eating noodles, egg, bread, cereal, oatmeal, vegies, fruit, ect.. besides their regular diet.. Nosey is meant in a funny way. They are very quiet parrots. I had a green cheek conure, which is called the apartment conure because they are quiet. My conure was noisy and screamed often. It was louder than Sassy. Sassy talks. Says Hello, What's up, pretty girl, pretty birdie, barks like a dog, wolfe whistles, sneezes, ect.. She rarely screams unless playing with her toys. They are excellent pets..
