Young Jenday or Sun?

Danny, that's true, to a degree. Lets see if I can pull up some photos...

In the following link, scroll down to "November". There is a photo of a jenday and sun sitting next to each other, as well as their three offspring. For the most part, they take after the jenday parent, but they end up with a lot of red in the face that jendays are not well known for.

Yes to a degree lol there are always exceptions but with those pics can see what i mean by the line?? most of them have it:)

i think it looks like a Sun Conure Jenday mix they are very common and look just like that! the head on yours is a Sun Conure like head but the body very much looks like a Jenday. Its very common for these birds to mix together and get mistaken for a pure Sun or Jenday. I NEVER buy birds from pet stores like petsmart or petco their birds are often diseased and not properly cared for and sometimes mean plus always overpriced!

I don't trust petco. They say they treat all pets equally but all you have to do is look at the dead betta fish in the inhumane cups and it will tell you everything.

agreed poor things! and the water isnt right they add some chemical to it and waay to small containers :(

I used to work at petco a few years back and hated it and quit....but with that being said from a business standpoint they are going to give you the run around big time and half the people working there don't know a thing they are talking about. My manager didn't even own any pets...................

Especially with other posts here and how they act about just returning pet food...ugh. Although the Petco near my home replaced a 80$ mercury vapor bulb for my chameleon with no questions asked. I could have just switched out an old one and got a free one? I guess it depends on the store and who you are dealing with.

Well good luck but in the long run even if your babe turns out to not be a true sun ....you still have an awesome pet. I was ripped of with my pomeranian I bought back when I was 19 and not thinking and he's 10lbs over what the "breeder" said he would be and turns out I didn't even buy the same dog that she emailed me a picture of.......but anyways....we love him just the same even though I dropped 800$ on a fake pure bred dog. Bleh.

This is going OT, and I don't exactly agree with the practice either... but do you know what a betta's natural habitat is like?

Yes, I do. In fact, I even use to breed them and care for sick and injured ones in Thailand at a betta fish club. I am very touchy and emotional about this subject so I hope you don't think I'm being rude to you on purpose. Just because they live in rice paddies and streams in Thailand and southern Asia DOES NOT mean that they live within 5 inches of space their whole life. All streams and eventually paddies have some kind of entrance to a freshwater pond or lake. Have you seen the rice paddies ? They are VERY large . If you think I'm wrong , go on bettatalk.com and then you will see the evidence behind it and proof

Not at all! :) I think the little cups are "ok" for temporary use, but not good for long term care. It really does set a bad example of what is "ok" to house a betta in, but like I said, if it's temporary and short, probably ok until a proper setup can be gotten for them. (and I'm sure there are plenty of owners out there that don't know the proper setup for a betta because they didn't do the right kind of research)

You are not being rude, you are being passionate about it. I'm sure that Thailand is very different to the USA, but I bet it's a gorgeous place!

You've got a beautiful little Jenday. I use to work at a PetsMart and while there I dealt with both a baby jenday (who started my passion and made me bring her home) and a baby sun (who also wanted me to take her home but was ripped from my heart a week before I could get her) and your bird looks A LOT like my Con. The two look the same as babies but you'll find that at about 10 months old, they have their first molt and suns turn yellow while hybrids (sunday/ jensun) will get the yellow splotches on their wings and Jendays just stay green. Here's another Jenday pic for you to compare with. This is my little girl, Con who is going on 2 yrs old.

Thanks ! Most people will just start insulting me , sometimes being passionate about something on a topic people take it the wrong way.

It's not easy to convey passion and what we mean through typed words. It's very easy for it to come out wrong, or for it to be read wrong.

In short, we all mean well, but we can't always say what we want in the best way possible... and I admit, I am guilty of that.

Thanks for all the inputs. I looked up his band number (JC 7143) and found out his breeder Coleman Aviaries, in Florida. I'm going to try to contact them and find out for sure, but if that doesn't work, I think I will throw in the towel.

BTW - Monica, maybe you remember me from before I was ejected? "Crebain"? ... I had a LOT of fun on BirdBoard with you, Kevin, Chariclo, Joel, Jessica B, etc., etc... That was a long time ago.

Update: Just spoke with a guy at Coleman's on the phone, he said he'd try to look it up by band number, but was not sure they'd have bird type on record. He was nice enough to ask for pictures, which I sent, and also suggested my bird could be a hybrid. ...

Epilogue; I went back to Petco last night and haggled for the bigger Vision cage I wanted at half price. Everybody's happy, including Pickles. ... How great would it be if his wings turned yellow now?

that's great they at least conceded and gave you SOMETHING. Pet stores can be such a pain at times.

That was ages ago! A lot sure has happened since! It's nice to find old friends in new places!

Also great that you were able to track down the breeder, and hopefully they can provide you with more information! Until then, I guess it's a waiting game! ;)
