Her cage came with "parrot proof" door latches, it said so on the packaging.

This morning I put her in her cage and went to take my shower, when I came out about 15 minutes later she was happily playing on top of her cage!

We have the same routine every morning and she is always in her cage having her morning nap when I come back out after my shower.

Now I have to find a way to make sure she stays in her cage when I am out of the room, or gone. It's just not safe with having 2 cats. They mostly ignore her and she ignores them (they are scared of her!), she hates being on the floor and has never climbed down to the floor. She has only tried to fly 4 times since I have had her, so I don't really worry about that (every time was trying to get away from Mr. Towel & meds)

I don't think she would ever go anywhere except the top of her cage to play with her hanging gym, but I need to make sure she is as safe as I can keep her.

Anyone have any suggestions???

Can you show a picture of the latch?

Is there any spot where a small padlock looped through would stop the latch from opening?...If so i would use that, and just leave the key in it.

Or rather you could use one of those loop chain link things with a threaded section in the same way.

The ONLY truly parrot proof lock is a stainless padlock where the key is well out of reach.

I don't have a picture of the latch, but it's the "new" kind where you have to "flip" the lever from top to bottom to open and the opposite to lock.

I may have do a chain & padlock, but that will be a hassle.

Silly smart bird!

If your bird doesn't have a habit of unhooking quicklinks, you can use a quicklink on the door as a door latch enhancement...

In my household, it's just an extra step in the puzzle toy.

Otherwise you option is to put a padlock on the cage.

I just watched a few you tube videos. I don't know if it was locked or where the key was but I watched a Mac remove a padlock. I also watched a Mac pinch the bars together so that they snapped off.

Zilla is one amazing bird! Haha! Love to hear of her antics.

Zoe approves the chain and padlock ;-)

I bet Zoe does! I remember reading about her adventures in disassembling! Hopefully Zilla won't start taking things apart!

She's currently on her cage trying to figure out how to remove the chain from the outside :)

My (BFA) Poppie never has door shut...It's open 24/7, I can go away and she'll stay on her cage. ( My Birds have their own 12 X 13 Bedroom) and can shut bedroom door. They know when I do that, I'm leaving for a bit.
At nite I shut Bedroom door as well. She has a large cage and goes in when she feels like it.

We have 3 dogs and they too are scared of the birds. Cats I'm not so sure of, it's my opinion, that cats can't be trusted, they tend to get excited about a bird that flies. Again that's my observation and opinion.
