I do have two cats -Riply & Nano bites-
four snakes- china, dip & stick, and Grand Chahee-
IMO a bird is only loud because its Bored.

Take it out and play with it, I think it would quiet down.

Did your family do alittle research on your bird? how long have you had it?

Ohhhhh no, that is bad when the family is complaining about it. Unfortunately, most Amazons are noisy as is most birds in general. If you think Greys are quiet birds, go to You Tube and plug in African Grey vocalizations and you will find they have their moments as well.

Why are you asking, are you wanting to re-home your Amazon and then get another species of bird?

If your family is that sensative to noise, you may have wanted to get a smaller bird like a Senegal. They are touted to be apartment birds. But I wouldn't swear to it. I have one and she can get a tad loud at times. I have a sheet that I cover her cage with when she really gets unruley and wants to squawk just for the sake of squawking. I put her in time out for 10 minutes or so and then take the sheet off only after she has been quiet for at least 10 minutes. I then praise her and give her a treat. She loves peanuts.

Hey Oled, that's a hard question to answer, lot a different factors . Almost any parrot can be noisy, if it's screaming for attention.Parakeets,Cockatiels, senegals, conures, macaw, toos any of these could be "noisy".If the problem is a behavioral issue maybe we need to learn how to fix that.If the issue is the bird talks and sings and chatters away all day then yes, there are "quieter" species of amazons(maybe White Front). Please post what you mean by "noisy" and maybe i could be more help.

No I am not thinking of re-homing but the case it that I have it for testing if it is working so I have the possibility to schose a deferent type if nesesary. but I thing in long terme that is isent a problem. Yes Polly spend most of the time outside the cage but do the vacation my children are att home and have a lot of other activitice in the house. Polly can hear them but get no atention and that is the problem. When I am at home then this is no problem This week Polly is with me working and after that I have vacation so I can work on it. Polly for is only 10 month and or 4 weeks in my care so I thing I can solve the problem.

Well it sounds like she wants to be part of the house hold.Is her cage near the center of activities in your house ? Amazons want to be included . I think a test period a great way to see how a bird will fit your life style.Good luck and let us know if we can help.

Hey Oled, "little Tree" we call a perch. That's good you include Polly in your every day chores around the house,I'm sure she enjoys being a part of what is going on in your house, I hope she is not too noisy for your family.Enjoy your amazon.

Typical amazon Behaviour. How old is he?? Can your family interact with him at all?

My gfs parents (as well her) have alot of birds. Her parents (or dad) Is a key breeder.
Well before me and her got into birds like them (iv always had a passion. Was too young to have a parrot. We've been together a while) they had us bring the birds out for 4 hours when they were working. We used to play with em and feed them. A blue front, grey, scarlet macaw and 2 conures. Goldcap and sun. Those are the "non breeders"
Had vocal periods but never loud. Now with an amazon 2 conures and two tiels of my own + all the birds at the rescue iv realized they just want attention. Even 15 min of chat or cuddles will calm a well behaved parrot. Just keep them in intervauls if that's how short you plan to keep bonding periods. However sons tend to be one person birds and polly might just really miss you. I know grey would miss the heck outta my father in law Lunch break would come around and he would be jumping and looping for joy. Just from the site of the truck through the window. My mom says when I come home with my speaker bass a bit high Sam goes nuts because he knows that's me haha. I want her to catch it on camera when I get home one day with my sterio loud lol

Yellow Naped Amazon -female, Umbrella Cockatoo - female.
My Yellow Nape can be quite loud sometimes, she yells things (nothing negative, just a name) that she learned when she lived with someone else...
I cover my birds when they are too loud & it usually quiets them down.
African Grays are usually quite a bit quieter than Amazons.
I had an A. Gray for over 10 years.
